EA was top publisher in 2012

Electronic Arts was the UK's top physical games publisher of 2012 thanks mainly due to the sales of FIFA 13.

The football title wasn't the only success for EA though, with other games including Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and sales of Battlefield 3 and FIFA 12 also helping to boost revenue.

Activision was also pretty successful last year, thanks mainly to its two mega titles, Call of Duty and Skylanders, both of which are raking in the cash for the firm.

Interestingly Ubisoft took third place, while Nintendo and Microsoft made up the top five. Sony, despite releasing a few exclusives, didn't even make the top ten. Perhaps that will change this year though thanks to its upcoming releases such as The Last of Us, God of War: Ascension, Beyond: Two Souls and more.

TOP BOXED GAMES PUBLISHERS (2012)

1. EA
2. Activision
3. Ubisoft
4. Nintendo
5. Microsoft
6. Sega
7. Warner Bros
8. Take-Two
9. THQ
10. Square Enix

Thanks, MCV.

The top three is no surprise, they are the three biggest publishers, good on Nintendo though, they've done very well.

I'm assuming it's the Sales of the games that make this list? Not actual quality?

i think because of the amount of games they bring out its easy for them to win this.. but work on your online servers EA for the love of god.. nothing online u make ever works well for long and its really pathetic for a company the size of EA to not make things close to perfection

It's especially bad when they charge for an online pass to play.

Looks like Wii sales and Pokemon DS kept Nintendo up in the UK this year, as 3DS and Wii U game sales certainly didn't do it for them. No surprise Sony didn't make it in due to their overreliance on lower tier IPs like Twisted Metal, Starhawk and PS All Stars this year. Fully expect they'll do big business next year when the big boy titles arrive though. Biggest shock though is Capcom failing to make any impact at all this year. They had some huge titles this year as well(Resi 6 being the biggest obviously). Seems Resi Revelations flopping and Resi 6's critical mauling cut them deeper than expected... Good going for Microsoft though, considering they released nothing for the first ten months or so of 2012.

Don't forget still selling dlc and map packs for games you can no longer play online gloria.

They don't do they? I would have thought they would stop when they close the servers, but I guess EA are returning to their old ways.

I've slowed down how many EA games i buy since they cut the online to LOTR BFME2, Only get fifa really now as it's the only half decent football game floating about, The servers need alot of work, and with them selling the most out of any publishers they have no excuse to splash a bit of wonga and sort them out.

I for one am pleased that Capcom are no where near the top of this pile. It serves them right for releasing tripe like Resident Evil 6 and Operation Raccoon City. If they went back to the basics and maybe even HD release some of there older titles on a disc like Resi Evil Collection of 1,2,3, Zero, Remake, 4 and Code Veronica; Onimusha and Maximo instead of ruining games, like they have done to DMC, they might get somewhere

Would love some remakes, Can't see them coming to Xbox if they do though. The way Capcom handle their DLC aswell really wazz's me off so im happy that they are not in the top 10 too.

Don't see any reason any HD remakes wouldn't come out on Xbox if they get made... though I get the impression the DMC HD collection on PS3 and 360 didn't do so well, so they may not bother trying anything similar in future.

They gave us HD remake of Okami and Resi 4 which are both excellent. Revelations was excellent too. There were one or two others which escape me.

Revelations has been the best RE in a long while, I had high hopes for 6 after playing it, but then they went back to the pure action format.

Midway Arcade Origins which is a very good compilation and very cheap was a Warner Brothers release. Other than that, I'm not sure. Heard Darksiders is pretty decent and was one I was looking at, but dont know why I am never excited about any THQ games bar South Park
