Disney Infinity announced, uses real life figures

Disney Interactive has showcased its latest title, Disney Infinity, at a press event in the US.

The game, uses AR Toys and other collectables to interact with the action, much like Activision's mega-popular Skylanders. The difference here of course is that the characters come from Disney/Pixars wide range of properties, which makes this game sound like a license to print money to us.

The game will initially be released with a set of 40 toys with 17 character figures along with Disney Infinity Power Discs which can be used to power the playable characters up and provide more customization and abilities.

"Disney Infinity introduces a new way to interact with the best of Disney on one game platform, both now and in the future," said John Pleasants, co-president, Disney Interactive. "With this innovative approach to gaming, Disney Infinity will bring to life new characters, stories and environments from The Walt Disney Company over time in a way that will delight fans and gamers alike."

Here's some features from the press release followed by the announcement trailer.

Disney Infinity Interactive Pieces -?Initially a line of 40 collectible interactive pieces will be introduced that allow players to expand and customize their play experiences.
Disney Infinity Interactive Character Figures -?Seventeen character figures will allow players to experience a variety of their favorite characters in true to property experiences and in 'Toy Box' mode.
Disney Infinity Base -?When figures are placed on the Infinity base, they unlock the world and play experiences of Disney Infinity.
Disney Infinity Power Discs -?Interactive discs can be placed on the Infinity base to power up characters and 'Toy Box' with unique powers, customizations and gadgets.

Also mentioned in the press release is the 'Toy Box' mode, which is a virtual space in which all the characters can come together. Play Sets can be used in the Toy Box in any of the worlds on offer.

Finally it's also been mentioned that Disney are currently "discussing" the possible inclusion of Star Wars and Marvel characters in the future. How good would that be?

The game, which is being developed by Avalanche Software is due to release on consoles, followed by release on PC, Mac and Mobile devices.

If it was a select few Pokemon that would be one thing but if it was all Pokemon (700+ now) My god would that be expensive

Pokemon would be a good idea, so would Yu-gi-oh lol. I'm sure i read somewhere on the internet that the Wii U gamepad had the same type of technology as this, so Nintendo could do something similar to this. Whatever though, this game is bound to be a huge success. I just pity the parents who will have to fork out for it all, much like Skylanders.

Hands up those of you that can see the tie ins for every new disney movie, and re-issue as they are released! A good idea in theory, but the price tag I fear will be very high and knowing disney, will be milked for all it's worth. This is gonna be a pricey game for the kids!

Price Tag'll probably be the same as normal Disney toys, plus having to rebuy the portal and stuff. Genuinely wish I was young again to take advantage of my parents for this.
