Monster Hunter 4 rumoured for PS Vita

Take this with the largest pinch of salt that you can find, but a Japanese magazine is rumouring that the reason for the 3DS delay of Monster Hunter 4 is so that a PS Vita version can be released at the same time.

"Whilst originally it was said that the delay of MH4 was due to wanting to make a better quality game and graphics, the real reason appears to be that it may be released on the PS Vita to increase sales," says the rumour via Operation Rainfall.

Capcom hasn't announced a Vita version of the popular series is in the works and we really aren't sure they'd be able to get one out this quickly, unless of course it's been in development for quite some time. But if so why would Sony keep quiet about it?

Given that a Monster Hunter 4 title would more than likely revive the fortunes of Vita in Japan, Sony would surely love this to be true.

In our opinion though you should file this under hopefully but doubtful.

It would be great, if MH was released for Vita, but not sure it's a good business decision to delay the game, so both versions can release same time. Just announced it and smart ppl will wait for Vita Version

I can't see this happening as i'm sure Nintendo have an exclusivity deal with Capcom for the Monster Hunter games for the time being. I also read somewhere that Monster Hunter 4 was exclusive for the 3DS only as it was built with the device in mind, ie utilising it's features.

I doubt this considering the PS Vita needs a Monster Hunter to survive in Japan & Nintendo knows that

This wont increase Vita sales that drastically

I think you will find it might, quite a lot.

In Japan it would, but would do nothing anywhere else. Monster Hunter is a meaningless franchise anywhere else but Japan in sales terms.

You are not wrong, but changing things up in Japan changes things up everywhere else really.

I've waiting years for a monster hunter now 2 release near each other, both on consoles i don't have... Gonna buy a Wii U for 3 ultimate, but I just can't bring myself to pay the price for a vita, just too much for a handheld imo.

A Vita cost the same as 3DS

It's unlikely. Capcom have fostered a lot of bad blood with Sony the past few years so it's highly unlikely Sony would go crawling to them for a release that would do nothing more than give Japanese Vita sales a minor boost and you can be sure Capcom wouldn't be releasing another Vita game off their own bat, so I very much doubt this will see release on Vita. Thankfully there are better looking alternatives hitting Vita soon in Soul Sacrifice and God Eater 2, which are both actually going to get released outside Japan... unlike MH4.

This seems like a heavy amount of wishful thinking. But there are certainly worse franchises that Sony could pony up for access to, especially for Vita. The sales in Japan will go through the roof if it releases on the Vita

Part of me can see it happen. But wasn't there also a rumour that it was gonna be on the Wii U too? Likely just wishful thinking

And then rumours started that Nintendo actually has an exclusive deal on the MH franchise for 3 years. Which may be a bit of a problem for the Vita and PS4 in Japan. (Unless a new OP game comes out exclusive for it.)

It wouldn't of done much for the Vita sales wise if was true. Everyone and their mothers owns a DS in Japan, so why would they buy another console to play it when they can get it on the system they already own? MH isn't jack in West to boot.

Fair point about Japanese sales. It would be nice to see the Vita take off. But I just cant see it somehow, especially over here. The PSP was a fantastic little handheld but sometimes towards the end of its life did seem a bit neglected.

The PSP was only worth mentioning if you considered the Japanese RPGs. Everything else was just so meh about it. Most of the big names ended up getting ports on the PS2/PS3 anyways. I feel like the PSV is starting to get in the same position. Little to No Japanese support (or if there is we aint getting it.) and most of the big names are ports of PS3 games for 'crossplay'
