Satoru Iwata has outlined the future of Wii U on the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast, outlining new services and games for Nintendo's flagship console.
First up Nintendo revealed that it'll be releasing two system updates for the system. One in Spring and one in Summer. Allowing for brand new features, although these where not detailed.
In addition, Nintendo announced that it will release the Virtual Content after the Spring, although it will not include the full line-up at that time. Instead it'll include a selection of NES and SNES titles and will allow you to save a back up of your progress. Gameboy Advanced titles will also be added at a later date.
NES and SNES games will be priced the same as the Wii version. If you previously purchased on Wii then you'll get games at a reduced price automatically.
In addition to the above, Nintendo has announced that a trail campaign will also be introduced, allowing gamers to get hold of a NES/SNES game for just 30 pence. The games will return to normal price when the campaign is over. If you own the Wii version you'll be given this price even when the campaign finishes.
The first game available will be?Balloon Fight, which you can download right now for 30 pence.
As for other features, Nintendo has revealed that user communities and more than one official communities per title and filtering function are coming to MiiVerse. You'll also be able to browse MiiVerse from Smartphones in the future too.?
A European specific announcement was also made for Wii U TV, with Iwata announcing that Nintendo is working hard on this and they'll have news soon.
One of the most important parts of any console is obviously Wii U and therefore a large part of Wii U Direct talked about software.
Titles on the way include LEGO City (March 28), Pikimin 3 and Wonderful 101, the latter of which had some wonderful looking new footage. Bayonetta 2 was also mentioned. There was no specific details although Iwata did show a video from Platinum Games in which they specifics about the game. We'll post that for you when we get hold of it.
Finally Iwata also mentioned that Smash Bros news will be coming at E3.
News on other games also on the way which we'd regard as big new for Wii U include a new 3D Mario game and a new Mario Kart game. Hardly surprising really given they have?appeared?on every other Nintendo console but still exciting. Expect more on these and a new party game at this year's E3.
Something which pleased us most was the announcement of two new games, Yoshi's Epic Yarn and?Shin Megami Tensei meets Fire Emblem. Yes Nintendo are doing something new, which is obviously quite brilliant.
One last big of news was that we'll soon hear more on the new Zelda game which is in development for Wii U, but if that's not enough then Zelda Wind waker will be released in HD in the meantime.
