Ubisoft's 'Osiris' video shows glimpse of unannounced game | Update: "Project no longer moving forward" says Ubisoft

Update:

Ubisoft has confirmed in a statement to Polygon that 'Osiris' is a project that is no longer moving forward.

No other information was provided.

Original: A "rough-cut demo" for Ubisoft's "Osiris" has been uncovered by NeoGaf.

The trailer features motion capture and bares the words "from the studio that brought you Assassin's Creed," in other words, Ubisoft Montreal.

The video was posted to the Vimeo account of one Mark Kilian five months ago and was described as being 'commissioned' by Ubisoft Montreal.

Could this be the real deal and if so, what is Osiris? Whatever it is, it certainly looks like it could be interesting.

Watch the video here while it's still live.

Hope Osiris turn out to be somewhere between Assassins creed and POP, Ubisoft have put POP on hold too so hopefully they will eventually make a sequel to the 2008 Prince of Persia

The "From the studio that brought you Assassin's Creed" tagline certainly interests me. You can't tell much from the video, but I suppose that with a name like Osiris, it could be the Egyptian set AC game that's been threatened for years!

Osiris is the Egyptian god of the afterlife, looks like work has gone into the "Osiris" logo which would make me think this could be the genuine title or at least part of it. If you look in the background of the slow mo hero sections in some you can clearly see painted backgrounds of pyramids and Egyptian buildings, none of the buildings are in ruins so that would lead me to believe its taking place during the height of the Egyptians power/civilisation.

Egyptian things float my boat. Definitely keeping an eye on this. Egyptian/desert style music can be really cool as well, remember the music from the Ahn'qiraj area in World of Warcraft?

Quite disappointed to hear it's not being pursued. I thought the video made it look, at the very least, intriguing. I wonder if any of the concepts have been picked up to be used in another title? It certainly had the feel of either a historical action/adventure game (like Assassin's Creed) or, potentially, something spliced in with investigations and exploring from present day (akin to Uncharted). I know games companies have to abandon certain projects for a slew of reasons (technical issues, shifting market demands, people leaving said project, etc) but it'd still be nice to hear about the ideas that get left at the wayside. Reminds me of how that Road Rash remake was abandoned by EA a few years back....still think that's a missed opportunity.

Aww, that's a shame. Maybe they'll come back to it one day? Dunno if developers ever pick-up old projects like that again though.

Seriously? I'd love to get my hands on an Egyptian action/platformer. Especially from by Ubisoft Montreal. And with the one screenshot, looks like we can have some crazy supernatural landscaping. Like the new DMC maybe. I WANT

Totally agree with you. Hardly any games that take place in Ancient Egypt--and it would be an awesome setting--also the fact Ubisoft Montreal was developing it. So this should definitely be picked up again at some point. Also hard to believe that there are no good games involving mummies either.

Search for 'Oh Mummy' on the Amstrad CPC464. Greatest mummy game EVER made! Haha. I played it a LOT as a kid.

'GTA: Cairo' might be on the horizon. Set in 1450 BCE during the reign of Thutmoses III. High-speed chases in horse-driven carts - can't wait!

Oh no! i hate when games suddenly stop moving forward :( especially if the game has mega hype behind it. wonder what the reason was for it to be stopped? maybe it wasnt to be leaked? or someone stole the project ideas? or maybe it is something as simple as hard financial times? well no matter the cause, it is always bad news to hear games getting hacked. RIP Osiris.
