FIFA 14 hinted at for Next Generation machines

EA will soon reveal details on FIFA 14 for Xbox 360 and PS3, but that's not all, because it could be coming to next generation machines too.

Speaking in the latest EA financial call which took place last night, EA CEO and executive director John Riccitiello hinted that we may be seeing some big reveals in the coming months.

"We are investing in Gen4 console technologies and content," he said, adding that EA's already signalled that it's "working on the next editions" of its "two biggest franchises in Battlefield and FIFA" and looks forward to discussing these programs and many others with you when it provides its "fiscal 14 guidance in May."

Riccitiello also expressed his belief that franchises such as FIFA and Battlefield will only grow stronger as the next generation approaches.

"We believe that FIFA and Battlefield have a shot at certainly remaining in the top 5, quite possibly being 1 and 2, if we're successful as we move through the next technology transitions we see coming," said Riccitiello. "We do recognize as we move into what we determine or call Gen3, i.e., PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, we started weak, and we climbed forward, improved, but we lost market share coming into this transition, we climbed back.

"We think Battlefield and FIFA are going to help us lead as we move into the next set of technology opportunities and platform opportunities, and continue to get bigger."

What I think will happen is they'll release a FIFA 14 for the PS3 in September when the game is usually released. Then when the next generation comes, they'll release basically the same game on to that, before improving on it for FIFA 15.

Assuming of course no next gen consoles are launched by the time FIFA 14 is released ;)

This isn't surprising. Since FIFA is usually out around September time and rumours say at least 1 of the new consoles (hopefully the new Xbox!) should be out before christmas like in November time then they might release the 360 and ps3 versions in Sept then make the next gen versions launch titles with upgraded graphics or something. If they are launch titles for the new consoles, I might wait and buy the game with the new xbox instead of getting the regular version. Depends how big the price difference is going to be between the X360 and NextXbox versions.

No 'shock' at these announcements about the forthcoming new-gen versions of these never-ending franchises. I'd temper any thoughts these games (like FIFA) are really going to change just because of rendering graphics in a slightly different way. There is only so much information our pretty little heads can interpret - soon games aren't going to look like games, where will the fun be then?

I do not understand why people pay £30+ on a football game? it is the same thing every time it is released with just different team layouts or something. maybe it is just because i am not a football fan, but from a gamers perspective i would rather go outside on a field with a group of mates than play on the game inside ...... im sure it is just EA being greedy about money again and taking advantage of huge finatics .... the games should come with a voucher to save them money on a season ticket or something ............... get people out the house and moving not inside playing something they could do socially.
