Sony severs ties with Superbot Entertainment

Sony has severed ties with PlayStation All-Stars developer Superbot Entertainment.

Despite receiving much positive praise, it seems like sales of the game where pretty disappointing, leading to Sony ending its relationship with the studio.

"SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms," says SuperBot's director of operations David Yang. "We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done.

"SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey."

The studio recently laid off a large number of staff.

Sony's Santa Monica Studio will continue to work on the DLC for the game for the foreseeable future.

I could see it not doing as well as predicted, but it's good that Sony are still working with DLC too. So atleast it'll still stick around. I completed it as Dante, and done some challenges as Raiden, but I doubt I'll spend that much time on it anymore. I'd rather play it on a Vita, if anything.

Game developers are picked up and dropped by publishers like an endless stream of cheap hookers! What have you done for me, lately!

Loved the game, really cool it was. I hope they still make Crash Bandicoot for it(i.e Sony's Santa Monica Studio do) :P

Never played it, but it doesn't look bad. I would like Crash to come out on it, but Kratos is the main character for me, as was in Mortal Kombat

It was always going to happen, but I guess the average sales of All-Stars hastened this split. Shame, as it seems Superbot weren't entirely ready for it to happen just yet. Best of luck to them.

as a new player to these sorts of games , i enjoyed it but thought after a while it got a bit repetative , there should have been more characters available from the start , but it seems these days if you dont make the cut sony eg just cut the delvelopers lose

I can fully see where your coming from there. Sony has it all wrong. They should be supporting the developers of this game. Maybe bring out some extra perks to those who buy it - for free. In this day and age of the internet, if something is struggling its not just a case of watch it rot. Do something about it, release patches, characters, create a character OR how about a cool option, and include characters from other games using disc swapping (one of the old PS1 games had this, cant remember which though)

sony should try to have done something instead of just getting rid maybe have come up with some new game modes or something in a dlc , to keep players interested

Didn't the Super Smash Bros games on the Nintendo machines under-perform compared to the other Nintendo games? i.e. the Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart games would be massive successes but Super Smash was loved by those that played it but not a huge success sales-wise.

That's a shame. They hadn't done much else had they? But I guess this is what happens these days if you make an underperforming game. I felt the game was a bit daft. Announcing Sony All-Stars then not only neglecting to put in characters that made Sony in the early years but also adding non-Sony properties. I guess on the plus side they could remove a small handful of characters and put Master Chef in and label it 'Microsoft Superstars Battling'

Knockton - that's what I meant by they should release more for this before ditching it! And for Free, would bolster the excitement and sell a couple more copies! They've let everyone down whose spent £40 on this game
