The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt announced for PC and Next Gen

The latest issue of Game Informer has revealed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, "a new next generation RPG" from CD Projekt RED.

The game once again stars Geralt and takes place in a world which is 20 percent bigger than that of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The game is also said to be 40 times larger than that of The Witcher 2 - one so large that it takes 30 to 40 minutes to cross on horseback.

In addition to the above, it's said that Geralt can cross the world without any loading screens and whatsmore, as he makes his way across the land points of interest will always be in sight. As you would expect, along the way you'll be able to explore dark caves, embattled villages, decaying ruins, and other areas. There will also be mini-games, plenty of side missions and of course an unlimited amount of creatures to battle.

The game's narrative is said to offer three forms - low level crafting and fighting, mid level individual storylines for each area and a single overarching plot for the entire game. Each land in The Witcher 3 will also have its own storyline, while weather effects are also a big part of the game, being dynamically generated and not a simple paint job anymore.

Magic has also been redone, with new spells and effects, while there are also two new skills - Swordsmanship and Alchemy and a newly designed inventory which allows your horse to carry equipment too.

Sounds pretty fantastic.

The Witcher 3 is to be released on PC and Next Generation consoles.

Sounds pretty fantastic indeed, Joe. Will get this for one of the next gen consoles I think, unless I upgrade my graphics card by the time its released.

Incredibly excited for this, and I love their philosophy about remaining independent. I think for a series which embraces very adult themes, this is important. And it's always encouraging to see creativity not being hampered by bean-counters who think they're artistic.

Slightly off-topic, How is The Witcher 2 on the adbox?

Not as good as on PC obviously, but it's still worth a go as it looks great and the story is really really good. Just be wary of the stiff combat and awful inventory/menu systems.

Its really good. Plays nicely and looks ok. It was the only game I bought on the 360 last year and it was enough. Props on the Adbox thing. Thats kinda funny.

Plays well, quite linear but all in all a good game. Worth it for the price you'd get it for now too.

If you quantify 30-40 minutes of horseback riding, surely that isn't really that far - oh wait, this is video game riding, horses are immortal, run at a permanent gallop and never really tire! ;)

why next gen i dont want next gen just yet i want current games what about this even scaled down a bit

There got to be progress and moving forward with tech, if not we would all still be playing Atari's and Commodore's.

They would probably then have to scale it down for PC players too. If they did, a LOT of PC gamers wouldn't be very happy. Still, 2014 isn't far off, so it won't be long before you get to play this. If you plan on getting a next gen console that is.

Hopefully this will be one of the launch title's for next gen then seeing as it's been announced so early on.

I don't think it will be a launch title. The consoles are estimated to be released towards Christmas this year, and The Witcher 3 is said to be getting an actual release date in 2014. As a fan of the first two, I really cannot wait for this game. It is going to be awesome.
