Dead Space 3 review round up

Dead Space 3 arrives this week and to mark the occasion reviews have just went live across the internet.

So far it seems like the game has been met with a decent enough reception, with comments ranging from it being "slick and entertaining," to it being a "an interesting, thoughtfully constructed horror game."

We know you would also like to know what we think although we received the code slightly later than the sites listed below. We are hoping to have our review with you tomorrow or thursday, but in the meantime here is what the other sites think.

Edge - 7/10
CVG - 7.3/10
IGN - 7.8/10
Joystiq - 4.5/5
OXM - 7/10
Polygon - 9.5/10
VideoGamer - 5/10

You can pre-order Dead Space 3 below.

I must admit, I was hoping for better scores than this. Seems around a 7, 7.5 across the board. I was hoping for at least all 8s. Oh well! Gotta try it to find out!

You do really. I've always found that highly rated games are good, but they seem to under-rate a lot of games based on somethings like being 'as good' as previous installments, which harboured 9s and 10s from them.

see the thing that gets me is that if it isnt rated 8 or above its deemed bad. WHY? surely 5 would be average ect ect. instead it seems 7-8 is average... that and i almost always disagree with the critic reviews...
Silly Billy's avatar
It's not just the way scores are viewed, but the way games are scored too, lots of sites do give average games above average scores.

wow 5 out of 10 is low compared to every1 else... i think its decent scores like space said if its under 8 its bad.. no its not ive got a few games rated 5-6 that i loved! its your own preferance that counts

the demo sold me 7.5 is an ok score dont write it off till you have played it yourself , it may be more action but still plays the same

i can see this as turning out like resi 6 just because its abit more action focused than before the graphics as still very good and people might not give it a chance the weapon crafting is a new better feature now aswell

A 7/10 from Edge is like a 11/10 :D

Hate numbered reviews myself. And some go for some ridiculous variations in scores. I remember seeing Xenoblade and Ni No Kuni getting lower scores and the complaints being 'too many tedious fetch quests or kill x quests.' and the same reviewer giving Skyrim a perfect score and it not affecting it. Or the worst. FPS games like Bioshock getting lower scores simply due to the line 'It's not COD.'

i new this was coming i hate EA i loved dead space not anymore im nust going to buy aliens i could tell when i was fighting humans in tbe demo and there was a cover system this would not be as good as dead space 1 and 2 its a real shame ):

Dead Space 3 still seems like Dead Space, but before the second half, the game does get a bit boring. A lot of it is back tracking. Still, the weapon crafting system is cool, and the sense of exploration. I would get it when it comes down in price if I were you.

So general consensus seems to be 'good, but not great'. Not too surprised.

Maybe not as good as the other two but i think it will still be a brilliant game, I'll enjoy it anyway, and am really looking forward to it.

Got to be honest... I don't like the cover system idea either and when has Dead Space ever been about fighting human being's. Although I do like the idea they can also be culled by the Necromorphs who don't seem to mind who they put to bed. But its unnecessary, the humans for one should be working together to survive the horror

I'm just not going to use the cover system at all, pretend it's not there. That's one way to deal with it.

The cover system is supposed to be one of the weaker points in the game but I would say that Visceral Studios are trying to create something new. They can be criticized for not hitting the mark with these new mechanics but you might want to think that if they had introduced a snap-cover system, they could be accused of being similar to Gears of War. Also if they had stuck what they had done in DS1 with the single player claustrophobic atmosphere then it suffer from the same flack that Call of Duty gets; no innovation, although my opinion is is that CoD didn't show any innovation gameplay-wise until BlOps 2. That's just my penny worth

Much like the setting of Dead Space 3, we have to suffer from occasional snow blindness from time to time to enjoy games; it's still a game set in the Dead Space fiction - the demo still felt Deady to me. Sometimes, though, you can be forgiven for thinking they want to be like other titles rather than walk their own path. If you were seeing this as a first 'Dead' game, you'd be drooling right now. I'd still want to give this a go - still a brutal, bleak experience by all accounts.

i think they are trying to please the masses again who want action over scares , i played the demo and still think its a dead space game at the roots , but can see this going down like resi evil 6 though , show it your support so more get made

I like the thought of the snow... that's not the issue. My main concern is the cover system. It doesn't belong in Dead Space. So if your chased by the Regenerator, your going to be able to sneak past him? He should follow you like he did on both Dead Space 1 and 2. Hope he makes a third appearance and this time I can push him off a cliff or something

That is what I fear, going down the Resident Evil 6 route. The Last of Us providing on how good Dead Space 3 is could be the last ever survival horror game. Hope I'm not right

A little disappointing if I am honest but it is bought and paid for now so I shall judge it for myself. I'm sure I will still enjoy it.
