Another day, another next-gen rumour, this time courtesy of the newspapers of Japan. One of these rumour stories has to be right eventually, don't you think?
Anyway, this latest rumour circulates around the?date and price details. According to Gematsu's translation, the console is expected to cost more than 40,000 YEN, which equates to 427 dollars or around 300 GBP. If true then this suggests the PS4 might be cheaper than the PS3 was a launch, although this is of course purely speculative.
Perhaps more interestingly is that the report also mentions that Sony is scurrying to meet expected demand in the US and Japan, with no mention of Europe at all. Could we be left behind again for a few months and would this give Microsoft a large head start once again?
In related new, a Nikkei report also translated by Gematsu, says that Sony will use the newly acquired Gaikai to power demos and trials as well as other media content. This would make downloading a none issue. Although it seems that Sony will not use the service for full games to begin with. We are still convinced that Gaikai will at one point allow users to tap into Sony's extensive back catalogue, although perhaps that's for the future.
Nikkei also claims that the PS4 will feature expanded network functions, including a social feature in which users can share opinions. Finally, the site also agrees that the console is on course for this year, at least in some territories.
Sony is hosting a PlayStation event on February 20 at which many people expect the PS4 to be revealed. Hopefully then we will find out if at least some of these rumours are true.
