Rayman Legends creator protests with team for release of Wii U version

Rayman Legends creator Michael Ancel and his team have been spotted in a photo protesting at the delay to the Wii U version of the game.

The photographs show Ancel and the team holding a banner which reads, "release Rayman. Support Ubi Montpellier."

An image of a crying Rayman and a Wii U logo, along with the intended release date is also present on the banner.

Ubisoft angered fans last week by delaying the game on Wii U so that it could release alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions in September. Following a fan outcry it then promised fans that it would release a Wii U exclusive demo to make up for the news.

"Thanks for all your feedback regarding Rayman Legends in all of its forms," it said. "We have heard you and we will continue to listen. We understand your frustration and that you want to get your hands on the game. We are working with the development team to provide you with a new, exclusive demo for the Wii U soon. Stay tuned for more."

Can see where they are coming from. They'll want their game to get the best deal it can, and won't like Ubisoft playing 'business'. Still, it's not a good look for any company.

Can definately understand their point, and definately sympathise with them.

Thing is, this could work, it could sway Ubi into action.

However, its also a very bad move, as they are basically protesting against their parent company......not the best move for an employee.

Will be interesting to see if it sways Ubisoft into releasing it soon or stick to the September date. It would be a victory for fan power but cant see Ubisoft buckling.

Would be great if Ubi would buckle but i too can't see it Happening. When you have your'e own teams protesting you can tell you really are being a crap company.

Ubisoft are just so full of crap, I can't believe they decided to do something like this. I mean ok so PS3 and 360 owners get to experience the game too, but the Wii U version is DONE, development has finished on it so just release it already :/

so they should protest i feel for those who have bought the wii u it seems like the major publishers have already shunned it for the big two another gamecube on the way

Such a fuss about a mediocre (at best) game series.....

Your opinion. I wasn't a big fan of the older ones but Origins is one of my fav games of recent.

it is a group of developers who worked hard to make a good kids game not getting it released it is a shame so many games fall down due to this sort of thing as long as ubisoft are confident the game will still make a profit there's no reason for them not to release it for the wii u

A kids game?
I can't believe you said that.

Itsa shame 4 the wii u owners i agree but thats the price you pay for buying a console early in its cycle when theres no games.....oh well im lookin forward to playin it on 360 in september i loved origins and im gonna love this but i cant see what all the fuss is about

Hopefully it'll have an effect. Doubt it however. Rumours all over about this. Including one about how Microsoft won't allow games coming for their console to come out on anything else first.
Dead's avatar
The MS policy thing is just a wild theory started by a fanboy that has spun out of control. It's all based on an 18 month old article at edge online that reports that MS have the right to refuse publishing games on the 360 that have been released previously on other platforms.

PrometheusFan's avatar
That's not a theory, that's an actual policy MS have in effect. It mostly applies to releases on XBLA though I believe.

Can't see this making a difference, Ubisoft are going to lose millions over this.
PrometheusFan's avatar
No they're not. It was never going to sell on Wii U anyways.

i guess but the wii u owners deserve better than that gloria would you not call it a platformer i know it's tough but it isn't aimed at those over 20 is it
Dead's avatar
I'd say it was aimed more at over 20's than under, mature gamers have a greater appreciation of that sort of game, kids these days just want to play FIFA and CoD and all that crap, not 2D platformers.

I'm 22 and i think Rayman is aimed at the older gamer, Mainly those gamers that played it when it was on the PS1.

ubisoft as you say will lose millions if they do this it will be bad what about ditching the 360 and going just with ps3 and wii u as both are more powerful than 360 and it will allow games to be made without porting over games to ps3 and wii u made for a weaker console like 360
Robichoico's avatar
likely it's on the 360 because their other games like Far Cry and Assassin's Creed do better on that than the other consoles (I guess. Never really see any stats of PS3 vs 360 multiplat games. It's always totalled together.) so Ubisoft are hoping for the same.

I agree with what Kelly said, look at Uncharted for example that was an A+ game and looked absolutely amazing on terms on graphics and visuals not to mention gameplay as well

i think they should make there voice herd on this , if they were not the ones who made this descion in the first place , then good luck to them , i can see why wii u owners are upset though if it was a exculsive in the first place , holding back till september this is sure to get lost in the gta rush

It's madness for Ubisoft not to release the Wii U version now, as there's not really any other 'big' games out at the moment and Wii U owners are crying out for a new release. Rayman Origins, even though it was a great game, ended up in the bargain bins within days because it was released on too many formats at once and went up against big titles like Skyrim during the run up to Xmas 2011. What the hell makes Ubisoft think that it will be any different this year, releasing Rayman Legends on too many formats at once and being up against games like GTA5, The Last Of Us, etc.? People say they're doing it to make more money...I can see it being just as much a sales flop as the first one to be honest. Rayman Origins sold so badly that I got it on PS3 brand new for £15 brand new within a month of it's release.

I can see where theya re coming from, and I sympathise with the dev team if they think they are being screwed over. But at the end of the day, they have been paid to develop a game. The distribution of said game is down to the publisher. I can see that it bugs them having their game delayed, but their game is going out to a wider market now, surely that's a good thing? I loved the demo i played of Legends at EG last year, and kinda hoped that it would come to other consoles. Personally, I'd like to see it on vita, next to my Origins case!

i think they should release the wii u version first and i have a ps3 the main reason being that this has been promised to those who have wii u's already it is unfair on those who have purposely purchased one. it is good it coming to the wider market though and thats a positive

It's a shame that it has become yet another in a long line of games that have been delayed from launch/launch window. Hopefully it lives up to expectations when it's finally released
THussain's avatar
That's true, fans would be furious if it doesn't meet their expectation

My 4 year old daughter doesn't get to play many games as they are too difficult for her but the demo of Rayman got her hooked and she was so excited about this release. Now it's not coming for another 7 months, that's a long time for a little kid. Thanks Ubi (NOT)

I have read alot of people say the same thing. I am curious as to how many will actually stick to that satement whe the game comes out? No necessarily you, but so many games get the "Boycott" treatment from gamers that still end up buying it release week. If people really want to make a point to Ubi, they should not only cancel pre-orders en masse, but stick to it and not buy it until the new year once the price drops. Sadly, this will never happen, and publishers know that.

I think a lot of people will turn to the used market to buy on wii U but does mean someone would have to have purchased it in the first place.

DynamiteWhyte's avatar
It's exactly what I've said all along. Barely anyone will stick to it, no matter what they say. And if they don't order Rayman, it means they weren't going to before. It's not a big enough franchise to mean boycotts of Ubisoft. And if they turn to the used market for the Wii U, Ubisoft won't see any point in putting on the Wii U so it will just pull out and leave the console users to spite their face.

Difference is I base my predictions on a very strong reaction which you are very seriously underestimating due to not having seen, and dismissing as people over reacting and not meaning what they say. We will see come September, but then you'll probably just say people weren't going to buy it anyway when I am proven right. ;)

The reason for the delay is Microsofts publishing rules, A multi platform game cannot be released late on an xbox 360, so because of this the hardworking developers at Ubisoft Montpellier won't see the praise they deserve for months
