Take-Two to assume control of WWE License, pending approval

Take-Two will assume publishing duties for THQ's WWE titles, pending court approval.

Polygon reports Take Two's assumption of these duties will save the bankrupt THQ by minimising impact on the WWE and Yuke's.

Developer Yuke is owed money from THQ in terms of royalties, however should the deal go through, current contracts with the WWE and Yuke's will be terminated and new ones drawn up, with current staff still staying on board the project as Take Two employees.

"We can confirm that we have entered into an agreement to publish the WWE video game series that is developed by Yukes," the publisher told Polygon.

"At this time, the agreement is pending court approval and we anticipate that it will be finalized shortly. We are very excited about the potential of this agreement and will have more to share at the appropriate time."

2K Sports would no doubt take on the publishing duties and considering its reputation, this can only be a good thing.

Interesting twist. 2K sports do have a good reputation for getting out decent games. Hopefully that means Yukes are pushed to improve year on year, and not just be the Madden of the WWE world! I will be watching with interest

I tend to rent and play for a few hours and send back. Just to feed the little kid in me. Every 3-4 years it gets a new engine and a few changes, but the yearly iteration model is beginning to hurt it

Would have been better if Take Two just picked up the licence, the WWE games are stagnating badly and are in dire need of a shake up.

I gave up on playing WWE games as I feel they are all the same, but it's nice to see the game will be continued by the developers

Thing with these games, you can stop playing them from the WCW vs NWO era and have a try 20 years later and they STILL play exactly the same. Indeed, a license to print money!

Glad that the Yukes team are still doing the work, even if they are gonna be T2 employees now. WWE13 was the best in a while....
