Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Review round up

##@image@##

The reviews are in for Platinum and Kojima's Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the verdict from the around the interweb is a largely positive one.

Below we have rounded up the reviews of some of the biggest sites around, along with our own of course.

Metal Gear Revengeance Review Round Up

ShopTo - To be perfectly honest, MGS Revengeance won't be for everyone. That's just the type of game it is. The story is a bit out there and the action is not for the faint of heart. Saying that though, what the developer has here is a blast, it's fast paced, beautifully presented and brilliant fun. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is Platinum by name and Platinum by nature and best of all, it's done Kojima proud.

Eurogamer - 9/10
Gamespot - 8.5/10
Gametrailers - 9.2/10
Joystiq - 4/5
IGN - 8.5
Polygon - 9/10
Videogamer - 7/10

Metacritic has the scores bouncing all over the shop. This one really seems to have divided people, and all with the same logic. It's either a game worthy of the metal gear name, or it destroys the legacy of Metal gear. Look forwad to playing it myself. Also, Joe, Metal Gear Rising: Platinum?

You will find the majority of the low metacritic scores will be based on people moaning that its not a stealth game or that Raiden is rubbish and not based on actually what is good and not so good about the game.

That would be true for the user comments, but I read the critics reviews and there are some real opposing views for revengeance from them too.

I think for long standing fans of the franchise it's a terrible move. The game looks appealing to people who like full on action games like devil may cry but that's not what metal gear solid was about. Really disappointed they took this turn but suppose can understand why.

This is why it is called Metal Gear Rising. People said that MGS2 wasn't what MGS was about as it didn't have Solid Snake. I'm a long standing fan of the franchise, and I'm delighted they're producing more games, and fleshing out on the Raiden storyline too. We'd never learn more about Raiden without a game like this, he can't exactly go from Cyborg Ninja in MGS4 to sneaking about with a sword. They have MGS: Ground Zero coming out too to stick to the normal gameplay and focus on other storylines.

Fairly strong reviews here, although I really think it depends on the reviewer. Some people still dismiss this game because its not stealth and cant come to terms with action. I love MGS, was sceptical about this, but after playing the demo, I think it could be one of my favourite MGS games.

Of course people are going to dismiss it. It'll be the same crowd that'd mark down DMC due to Dante not having white hair.

Exactly, and it's their loss as DmC was amazing. Some people just can't accept change, But then moan when things stay the same and get stale.

on metacritic on ps3 this game has a 79% rating so not the best. i loved the demo though i just feel like im getting ripped off if i buy it as no replay value ( its not an rpg, no game plus ) and vr missions wont last very long although in mgs1 i loved the vr missions.

Wow this are good scores, might go through the demo again, i gave up on it too easily maybe. Eurogamer seems to be a bit of a negative nancy giving this and crysis lowish scores compaired to the other reviewers.

This one has been back and forth for me. At first I wanted it because Platinum. Then realised I don't care much for the MGS series. Then saw the Collector's Edition with playarts Raiden. Then saw that Zavvi had it up for £100 and nowhere else got that set in. Was hoping Shopto woulda put it up for about £60 or £70 lol. So I left it. Then heard rumours of a Wii U version. Then decided they weren't gonna do that. So yeah. Get the Collector's Edition around £60, a Wii U version or I'll wait till it's £20-£15 or so. Which won't be long. Plenty out in the next 2 months anyways so

Metal Gear Solid peaked at number 2 for me. Although 3 wasn't a million miles away. I hope this isn't a series that they'll drag out for years on the back of it's name.

Being a big fan of metal gear solid and staying up till early hours of the morning and doing VR missions haha, I can say I'm not keen on this title. Quick rant- why destroy an brilliant franchise with Bringing out a full action title. Sure it could be a welcome change and bring in some new people to play this game and perhaps the other titles but some of the old school fans are saying the same things as me....please leave this area to DMC. Looks good but I would prefer playing DMC.

I played MGS3 from the moment I got it till I'd completed it. This is the only route they can take with Raiden, and I'm happy for it. They're still developing other games for it. So these 'old school fans' can wait.

just finished it (got it early thanks to the come around competition) and honestly say was a good game. Only downsides i saw were its a short game around 7 hours on the normal difficulty might take around 10 on the hardest one and the parry system is rubbish. Platinum dont really explain how to use it unless you go into the vr tutorial mission and doesnt tell you how to dodge (which discovered is square and x pressed at the same time). Thought the story was a bit weak as well, you can play this game stealthy but not way you would in any of the other metal gears but its fun slicing nearly everything up in blade mode and the frame rate does good to keep up with the action. But if you are in for a challenge and a trophy hunter there is a trophy where you have to get a S rank on the hardest difficulty on all levels and with one or two of the boss fights a bit difficult would most likely require a few replays to get a S rank and if you die the timer doesnt reset it carries on so longer you take the lower rank you get. Overall a very enjoyable game 7/10 in my personal opinion
