Ruffian working on self funded title

Ruffian Games, the developer behind Crackdown has been teasing via twitter over the last few days. Now we did think about writing a story suggesting that perhaps Crackdown 3 was on the way, but we decided to investigate instead and we are glad we did.

"I know, I know it's as shocking as finding out your favourite Lasagne is chock-a-block with Red Rum's offspring" says a blog post from the studio. "It's simply not an offer on our production table right now."

So what is the studio up to then? Well apparently creating it's very own self-funded game known as Tribal Towers.

"To be perfectly frank it's been a mixed bag for us at Ruffian, most of the work was genuinely a lot of fun to be part of and we're proud of our contributions, but some of it was a bit of a pain in the hairy tits.

"That said, while some of the work wasn't as much fun as we would like I can honestly say that we've all learned a lot during every one of the projects we were part of. So in retrospect we've nothing to complain about, really.

"The hardest thing to take for us as a company during this time was not being in control of our own project from the very beginning, we have had to come on to other developers projects late in the day and help them ship their game. Obviously we're extremely grateful for the work as it's kept Ruffian going strong, while other not so fortunate companies have had to close their doors. While we're appreciative, in an ideal world we would far prefer to be responsible for the design of the projects we work on from the first concept and see them right through to release. That's what we set out to do when we created the studio and that is the goal we'll continue to chase as long as we exist."

Tribal Towers will be released for Consoles and Tablets at some point in the future.

Sort of glad this isn't going to be Crackdown 3, Ruffian didn't make the best job of Crackdown 2 without all the original Realtime Worlds team. Was hoping this news was going to be they'd got the band back together to redeem themselves for the last game. Oh well, never mind.

Don't think it would have been a good idea. No market for this sort of title anymore. So many better games out there now. Smart move I say

Crackdown 2, despite it having very little story and quite repetitive gameplay if you just tried to follow the (limited) storyline is actually one of the most fun four player co-op titles released on the 360 to date. It's one of the few games I've not traded in and a few of us like to have a random blast around on it sometimes with our super soldiers.
