Rumour: PS Plus to be replaced, PS4 can be controlled by smart phones

The hype train is firmly on the tracks for tonight and yet more rumours are getting off at the stations along the way.

According to a new report which has popped up on Kotaku, PlayStation 4 will be controllable via mobile devices, ship with a PlayStation Eye camera, and an Xbox LIVE style to subscriptions.

Kotaku, who also posted a few more pics of the new controller (below), reports that new console will launch in the US in November in two models priced at 429 and 529 dollars respectively. Every console will come with the PSEye.

Elsewhere in the report, the site suggests that the console will be controllable via smartphones and tablets, while you'll also be able to chat with PSN friends, shop on the PlayStation Store, and start downloads while you're away from home.

Something which sounds very interesting is a new spectator feature which will allow you to watch other player's gaming, even if you do not own the title in question.

Finally the report also suggests that most PS4 network features will be locked unless you subscribe to the Xbox LIVE-style 'PlayStation World', which will take the place of PlayStation Plus.

We can't wait till the hype train gets to its final destination so that we can find out which of these rumour, if any, are true.

to be honest thats a good price its cheaper than the ps3 i think may be wrong.. microsoft will have to match or beat that now and i hope they do

Microsoft will probably beat it, because they are planning to have the new xbox's online free or the price will be lower. This is because everyone was annoyed that xbox live had be be paid just to play online.

Microsoft won't get rid of the XBOX Live when they announced just recently how proud they were of the number of people on a gold membership.

They won't talk price today. But why change ps+ when people are realising how good of a service it is?

Kotaku aren't always exactly reliable. But even if Plus does get replaced with something like Playstation World, aslong as it is the same quality of the XBOX Live, I won't be bothered, but if they offer us the same free service but with a price, then that's a problem.

I cant see them replacing PS+ to be honest. It was only a couple of months ago that Sony execs were talking up how important PS+ was & how much more effort would be going into pushing it.

Yeah, I'm hoping they don't touch it. BUT, if they do, I can see them marketing it as an 'upgrade' to the PS+ system. Better connection, better items instore, better everything, plus free games. I doubt they'll get rid of the PSPlus though, a big reason PS users choose a PS3 is the lack of paying for online.

Cheap consoles mean cheap hardware, meaning lower quality games. How can we take step forwards with technology if all the consoles are doing is dragging the PC down with it because game developers have to cater for us both..

I suppose PS+ wouldn't be too useful at a console launch anyway, you don't want to be giving away free games straight away. Could maybe re-introduce it (or something similar) later to tempt new customers?

If this 'spectator' feature is true, I hope it can either be switched off or you have to accept a request first. Ideally i'd like to switch it off because if I am getting constant messages of '*name* wants to watch your game' I would probably end up unfriending them if it got too spammy. And if there is no notification at all.....well that is just creepy. I don't want people to see that I am getting killed on easy missions or that I reload a save point to watch a cute scene a second time, etc....

I'm sure it will be something that you will be able to turn on of off on your'e profile settings. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I already get enough messages on the Xbox from people wanting me to go to their youtube channel and subscribe, so i think this is going to push me over the edge. Will be a nice little feature though if there is a game you want that someone else has, and if you want to have a look how it plays first.

Rumour...Rumour...Rumour PS plus is great isnt it and its doing a really good jobso why would they bin it??? If theyre going to be charging for the service PSN needs a massive massive overhaul if its to even begin to compete with Xbox live gold which as a service in my opinion is just second to none

this playstation world rumour is true i believe as microsoft have xbox live which generates hundreds of millions of pounds each year for them and thats why their service gets early dlc, better online experience such as voice chat.

So many rumors and I really hope this whole thing about killing off the pre-owned market doesn't happen because that's really going to let me down =/

So they've sat side by side with xbox live for years and been adamant their way is better before finally realizing that people really will pay for a quality online service over the free and very average service they provide? Wouldn't normally complain about 'free' but when you don't offer a quality pay-for alternative then people are entitled to moan.
