PlayStation 'Smartglass style' app coming to iOS and Android

We are still catching up on anything we might have missed from last night and this morning we have heard talk that Sony will launch a new 'PlayStation App? on iOS and Android, that will let gamer user their mobile device as a second PS4 screen.

We've already mention briefly in our round up that you would be able to use your mobile device as a second screen and now we have more details courtesy of the press release.

"A new application from SCE called 'PlayStation App' will enable iPhone, iPad, and Android- based smartphones and tablets to become second screens.

"Once installed on these devices, users can, for example, see maps on their second screens when playing an adventure game, purchase PS4 games while away from home and download it directly to the console at home, or remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices."

What do you think?

I think they are playing catch-up with Xbox at this point with something they brought to the current-gen. It makes me think that more developers have pressed them about this feature on their console --- and most likely are currently developing these features on the Xbox 360 (and next)

Developers will be developing smartglass functions in to the XBOX games, and Wii U games. So it's only intelligent for PS4 to have it available too. Hopefully it isn't mandatory to enjoy alot of games, but it is a good addition.

Sensible move, a second screen is always useful, and can add a lot to games.

I agree, i think it's about time they addressed the tablet and mobile market fully to its potential. alot of people have an Ipad or some form of tablet and bringing specific apps based around connectivity to your PS4 at home is a step in the right direction. i use my phone and Ipad to acess xbox live and other apps for games i play on xbox so this will give me more of a reason to show interest in the PS4.
