Tomb Raider movie in the works

Crystal Dynamics is working with production company GK films to develop a new Tomb Raider movie.

Studio head Darrell Gallagher told Variety that the new direction of the game has also inspired a big screen version, although details are scare at the moment.

"They are working from this new take that we've given them. It's a good partnership. We're seeing the challenges through the same lens," said Gallagher.

"It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise," he added. "We didn't want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old Tomb Raider films."

The new version of Tomb Raider, out today, sees a young Lara Croft stranded on a mysterious Japanese island, where she must grow as she fights for survival.

As soon as I started reading this I pictured Jennifer Lawrence being the new Lara :[ Gemma Arterton would be cool

I wouldn't expect too much from this, generally game movies are only slightly better than movie games.

I was pondering who might be able to step into Angelina's shoes to become the new Lara recently. If she can master a convincing British accent maybe Mila Kunis would suit the role especially as the new film is also likely to follow a younger Lara. I really don't want to see Megan Fox as Lara - that would be the worst case scenario for me.

Mila Kunis looks nothing like Lara though. I'd be happy to see Jennifer Lawrence do the job. Proven action heroine. Plus loveable.

I hope this does happen. I liked the previous Tomb Raider movies. Hopefully with this being a young Lara Croft perhaps eventually we could see a trilogy.
