Minecraft could come to PlayStation, but not Wii U

Minecraft could come to PlayStation once the current exclusivity deal with Microsoft ends, although there is no hope of it coming to Wii U.

Mojang's Jens Bergensten, lead designer of Minecraft Pocket Edition told iGamer that the Swedish developer will consider bringing the sandbox to 'PlayStation,' although he wasn't machine specific.

"Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles," he said. "When it runs out we'll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely."

Minecraft on Xbox Live Arcade has enjoyed amazing sales with the game becoming the best-selling XBLA game of all time. There is a chance that the exclusivity deal would end around this summer, giving Mojang yet another license to print money.

But if there is demand for it Mojang will be forced to look at the Wii U in the future

Shame, its out on IPads so would work well with the gamepad. Would like to see a reason as to why, instead of all of the speculation (Not Enough Sales, System not right for it. etc.) But either way, I got it on PC and Iphone. Doubt I woulda paid for it again lol

PC, Iphone, PS3, Ipad etc are all massive markets. Think they'd only really look at it if the Wii U sold well. No point on working on something that won't make them as much $$ as they can get.

Its funny, you couldn't put a game like Minecraft on any other more fitting console than Wii U at the moment. But why would Microsoft settle for timed exclusivity on the best selling XBLA game ever?

It wasn't the best selling XBLA game ever when Microsoft made the deal. And they know there is money to be made in the Playstation market that they won't agree to another deal.

Minecraft was already insanely popular on PC before it was ported. Microsoft practically begged them to do the port from what I heard I mean, they got permission to do a couple of free game updates. Microsoft pretty much doesn't let ANYONE do that. (go ask valve about TF2 updates on Xbox). In any event, it seems reasonably obvious that Mojang got an unusually good deal because of how popular minecraft already was. So, they settled for timed exclusivity because I doubt Mojang would've bothered to do the port at all otherwise.

I suppose now that we are close to changing gen (and consoles) if Microsoft want it on their new console they gotta change the agreements.

Considering Mojang were confirmed as working on PS4 at the console's announcement this is hardly a surprise... and neither is them passing on the Wii U, seeing as everyone else was doing that already.
