Competition Monday - Win ShopTo Points

Welcome to Competition Monday, our new weekly competition which consists of a few ways to win. All prizes consist of the chance to win points for your account. Here is what you need to do to enter either or if you wish, both competitions.

Competition 1: Comment to Win

As you no doubt know by now, our comment to win competition gives you the chance to win a prize in exchange for posting comments using your ShopTo account.

We understand that sometimes it's easier just to leave a comment on Facebook or Twitter and continue the conversation over there. But we'd love it if you make use of our news site to comment, so this is why we love to give you all a little incentive - the chance to win 3000 points on your ShopTo account.

Each week we will look at all the comments we have received from you, our readers, and as a reward we'll be giving away 3000 points to the person who we feel has contributed the most, both in terms of comments and their contribution towards the discussions within our stories.

There are a few rules obviously. For instance, in order to qualify for the weekly prize you need to have left at least 10 comments across any of our stories within that week. These comments must also provide a certain level of contribution, i.e be on topic and be relevant to the story which you are commenting on.

Competition 2: Review of the Week

Adding to the competition above is review of the week competition.

The title explains it all really. Basically, all you need to do is choose a game to review and get writing. Once you are happy with your review then simply post it in the customer reviews section on the relevant product page. e.g if you are reviewing FIFA 13 then search for FIFA 13 on ShopTo.net and post your review under the customer review banner.

In order to make it easy for us to pick a winner please try to stick to around 500-700 words. Also, we are not really judging on spelling, paragraphs, punctuation and review length. So even if you have never written a review before and are not confident, then please try.

Once you have followed the simple instructions above then all you have to do is let us know in the comments field below what game you reviewed. We will then choose a winner based on our favourite review and post it up on the news site for everyone to see.

If you are chosen as the winner then you'll win a whopping 10,000 points for your ShopTo account.

That's it really.

We are looking forward to reading your reviews.

How strict is the 500 word limit? I've already got 200 down on my entry and I haven't even started talking about the game yet.

200 and not even started talking about the game?

Yep, just setting the scene, when I used to write reviews before I would average about a 1000 words, with my longest being 1800. I'm trying to keep it down this time though, maybe 700-800 words, I've done 400 already.

That's the painful bit. editing that clever line you wrote and now it doesn't seem so clever! I love my review writing, but I'm still trying to find my style a bit I think (I do movies too, so can't really have a Gameplay section! ) good luck though. Looking forwad to reading your review Gloria

I refuse to compromise my artistic integrity for the sake of winning a prize. ;) Seriously though, I'll never get it under 500 words, even if I totally cut the intro, if I get disqualified so be it, it's just nice to write something again, been nearly two years since I officially 'retired' from the world of gaming journalism.

I'm just chucking up reviews for movies and games as I play/watch them now. I don't really care if their 10 years old or 10 days old. Just about to start playing Uncharted, so I'll review that when I'm done!
0000000000's avatar
same as me got the uncharted series to play and review. im the same as you pal

Now that the DLC is finally finished, I'm considering doing the complete Battlefield 3 review. But I can't keep that to 500 words. Might have to stick to the private one for that!

I'm really tempted to review the Mass Effect trilogy, but it would be exceptionally hard to do, at least without spoiling one game when moving onto the next.

Especially in 500 words.

500 words would be easy if I don't mention any plot points, or Tali by her full name.

I don't know about that, I wouldn't be able to write a review of one game in 500 words, let alone 3, even if they are all essentially the same gameplay wise.

That's the difference, It's a customer review not a professional one, basically free advertising-esque. Description - Game length - Quality - Replay value, average 100 words on each point.

Hard to break the habits of a lifetime though, I've always been overly verbose, the main, and only, complaint of my English teacher at school was the length of my essays/stories.

Besides, a robot could write, this is what the gameplay is like, this is how long it takes to finish, this is how many times you can play it before you get bored. Better to be more personal about it, put something of yourself in to it.

I took your point and threw 500-ish words at Mass Effect 3 if you'd like to give it a read, even spoiler free for Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Right, my review for Sonic Racing Transformed on the 360 is up, if anyone wants to have a look. Gone a little over the word limit, but what's 14 words between friends.

Big up your chests(I think thats Drum and Bass emcee speak for 'nine one') shop to, im already a very loyal and long serving customer of yours and what your doing with the competitions and the forums makes me feel a little bit warm and special inside joe, as it gets us all talking about what we love and you know whats even better is that theres not the overwhelming ahem ' nob' element that you get on sites like CVG and IGN which are OK sites but the negative vibe from the users just brings it down man......keep up the good work Joe, Andy and everybody else.....good stuff ! Was gonna do Tomb Raider or God of War later in the week. But felt both of those are the obvious choice. So I chose a game I picked up recently on the cheap that a lot of you may have passed up on. SSX http://shopto.net/video%20games/ps3/PS3SS01-ssx-deadly-descents

Is there any limit to how many reviews someone can submit? Quite concerned that even if I manage to cobble together one good review it would get lost in crowd if everyone is submitting 10+ of their own.

I forgot to mention my Wipout 2048 review to enter last weeks contest, must remember to mention my review this week. Still undecided on what though.

Sure if you didn't 'enter' it to the competition, it can still be entered now?

No idea, but it wasn't very good and stands no chance to win, as I didn't mention it last week I assumed that it wasn't counted as being part of the competition.

I've done a Resident Evil 6 on the xbox review. It isn't new but I didn't feel inspired to write one for a new game as I don't 'love' any of them.
