Pokemon figures on the way thanks to Wii U and NFC

Pokemon will be the first game to support NFC (Near Field Technology) on the Wii U, meaning that you'll be able to collect figures and beam their stats directly into the game.

Japanese magazine CoroCoro (via CVG), reports that Pokemon Rumble U will be the first game to support such a feature and will arrive in Japan on April 24.

Priced at 1,800 yen, the game will release alongside seven Pokemon figures each priced at 200 yen. When your character levels up, the system will store this information inside the figures.

No date has yet been revealed for the U.S or Europe, but we imagine games such as this could really help the Wii U to take off, especially if Pokemon are involved.

200 yen comes out to what? £1.50ish. That's not that bad considering, but then again, we'll be charged £10 and people will buy them. Aslong as they have a Charizard. They store your levels, but what do they do once you evolve? Transforming Pokemon, now I'd pay for that.
Pyroloveridge's avatar
yup me too, i never did get my hands on a black charizard

You're only allowed to have pokemon that don't evolve... like Kengaskhan or Pinsir, I don't think there are many left that are like that though.

The only cool non-evolving Pokemon is Heracross. The rest suck :(

You played bug catching contests, you know that Scyther and Pinsir can't compete with a Caterpie

I have never liked Sableye & Pinsir the only thing Sableye has going for it is that is has no weakness. (Which might change if 6th Gen has Light type) Also since Scyther I didn't mention it but of course Scyther is one of the best Bug types.

Well, at least they are cheaper than the Skylanders/Disney versions I suppose.
LFC Bywater's avatar
I think they could have priced them higher than the skylanders stuff and it would have still sold. Good that they haven't though.

They'll make a lot of money from this. Pokémon has a huge collection aspect about it thanks to the trading cards and sheer amount of Pokémon to catch in the video games. Thankfully they're using this feature in a spin-off game and not a main series RPG. They're also fairly priced (at least in Japan) when compared to other games that use this feature. These will probably retail at less than £5 for seven figures, which is far, far better than the other games can offer. However, I do agree that this kind of add-on for a game is purely a cash cow and I hope it doesn't become even more of the norm.

All they need is to have a new Pokemon Stadium, Instasales!

So Nintendo are copying Activision now? How low they've fallen.
Dead's avatar
Not really, Skylanders was a Pokemon rip off.

Core collectable creature idea perhaps, but the toy based gameplay mechanics were like nothing Pokemon had done until now. Pretty much another Tomb Raider -> Uncharted -> Tomb Raider style cycle of inspire then emulate at play here it seems.

E-Reader cards. Collect the pokemon cards and they work on your pokemon game and unlock new things. Same concept really
Robichoico 4 years ago
PrometheusFan's avatar
E-reader cards aren't really the same thing as what Skylanders uses at all, but I believe even card reader based games were around before Pokemon used those as well now that I think about it.

This could have SO much potential. SO much. But there's a few things.1.) It's a e-shop game. And so will be passed up by most people. 2.) Nintendo need to find a way to get it out. Easy in Japan since the anime/manga market is so huge. But look at the Kid Icarus Cards. Outside of a few Game tournaments down south they never even got in stores. And minor but it's not a true pokemon game. So will probably turn away the more hardcore pokemon fans from picking some up. Personally if it's priced right, like Japan prices I'll pick some up. Oh and the ones we already know are coming is Pikachu, Victini, Oshawott, Snivy and Tepig
DynamiteWhyte's avatar
Kid Icarus doesn't have the hold in the west that Pokemon does. If Spyro can selll masses of items, Pikachu and co will be able to sell a load. I think they will see how well it does, and as soon as they can, they'll start releasing a shedloaf of the things. Start at 7, end up at 500.

Would be interested if it involved all of the original Pokemon. Would have to get a charmander one. Gotta start saving for a WiiU now lol
