John Riccitiello parts ways with EA

EA CEO John Riccitiello is stepping down from the leadership role effective March 30th. Former CEO Larry Probst will lead EA until a more permanent successor is found.

John Riccitiello join EA as CEO in 2007 and has lead the company through the likes of huge new IP's such as Mass Effect and Dead Space. He also helped introduce the company into the digital space, which has seen many high's such as Simpsons: Tapped Out and many lows, such as the recent SimCity issues.

Perhaps the biggest failing in his time as boss has been EA's Star Wars title, The Old Republic, which EA claims to be successful despite it recently going free to play.

Riccitiello says in his resignation letter that this was "a tough decision", but added that it "all comes down to accountability."

He goes on to say that "The progress EA has made on transitioning to digital games and services is something I'm extremely proud of. However, it currently looks like we will come in at the low end of, or slightly below, the financial guidance we issued in January, and we have fallen short of the internal operating plan we set one year ago. EA's shareholders and employees expect better and I am accountable for the miss."

Riccitiello will receive 24 months of salary continuation and continued vesting of unvested stock options until November 30, 2013.

5-6 years of sitting on his ass and ok-ing things that increased profit regardless of how it affected the consumer, maybe this was the first year he didn't get a substantial enough payrise and decided it was time to jump ship

It's ok. Another man will be along to fill the position in a few months. Alternatively, you can get one now via our new in built micro transactions! Haha! I guess Sony can say goodbye to the little exclusivity they had with Battlefield huh?

Meh. It's the board of directors at EA that are the masterminds behind everything. This is just some expendable schmook they have as a figurehead. Nothing will change in EA at all.
