Epic CEO think's the PS4 is like "the world's best PC"

More next generation quotes!

Epic CEO Mark Rein, speaking with UK games website, CVG, has mentioned his admiration for Sony's upcoming console, Playstation 4 and their plans for it.

"I think it's a very smart move on Sony's behalf to build this sort of enhanced PC architecture and then put so much in it, he said. "Let's not forget it has 16 times the memory we had in PlayStation 3, that's not insignificant. Knowing that every machine has that, we can do crazy, ridiculous stuff with that."

"The other exciting thing is that when you think about Windows, even Windows for most people is tied to about 2GB of addressable memory space. This really opens up beyond what most PCs can do, because most PCs are running a 32-bit version of Windows. It's like giving you the world's best PC."

Mark went on to say that he's really enjoying Sony's plans with the PS4 release and architecture: "The kind of stuff that they announced that they're doing, the level of convenience and things like that, they're making a really perfect gaming PC. said the Epic CEO.

"I've always said that the things in the next-generation that aren't just brute force hardware are all about the service and simplicity of the experience, the things that make it as fun and easy to get a PS4 game as it is to get a game on your iPad."

(PS I took that photo of Rein last year at the Develop Conference. He's a really nice guy.)

Just saying that you don't have anything stopping you from developing for the game, hiding behind IOS stuff. It is, in essence, a 'great gaming' console, where as most 'gaming pcs' come with the baggage of other content.

He has a point, my PC doesn't have the ridiculous hardware that some people have. I spent £1,000 on mine some people want to spend double that others want a laptop that can play Starcraft 2 on medium and only need to spend like 400. Consoles have the uniform advantage of the hardware which is why they last a long time in cycle.

"Windows for most people is tied to about 2GB of addressable memory space ... because most PCs are running a 32-bit version of Windows" Most PC's that won't or never will be used for gaming are running a 32-bit version of Windows. Steam, one of the biggest platform on the PC has over half of it's userbase on a 64-bit operating system. 57.21% of windows users are on Windows 7 64-bit, some others will also be on Vista or Windows 8, pushing that number higher 45% of OSX users are on MacOS 10.8.2 64-bit. PS4 doesn't open all that much, but it allows for it to keep up with the game. Source: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey?platform=pc http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey?platform=mac

Oh? So does that mean Epic will be making games on PS4? Haha, only joking. Hell... do Epic even make games on PC anymore? He's not wrong here, but seeing as he's got another of Epic's lame-o game engines to peddle he's obviously going to be enthusiastic here... even if he won't put his money where his mouth is.

Ummmmm, as far as I remember, at the PS4 announcement event, the presenter said that the PS4 will have x86 CPU. So, that is a 32bit processor architecture. What puzzles me, is that in the official Sony announcement for the hardware specs there is this line: CPU: x86-64 AMD "Jaguar," 8 cores Does this mean that the processor will be x86 or 64bit (because it can't be both :) )

a 64 bit processor can run 32 bit processes, it is easier to code for 32 bit in gaming but having the amount of RAM spec'd would be useless, I have read previously, on CVG I think, that It will have two separate processors one 32 bit for gaming and another 64 to handle EVERYTHING else downloads, video etc could be bollocks though.

the PS4 won't beat a GOOD PC but consoles are getting there in terms of spec. At least we will see better console ports for PC in the future.

It's still going to be behind PC's If you're gaming on a PC then you most likely have 64 bit OS, so PC gamers have had high RAM for a long time.
