CD Projekt RED confirms The Witcher 3 is DRM free

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed its upcoming open world RPG will be completely DRM free.

Speaking to Kotaku during a GDC Interview, designer Maciej Szczesnik said "We are trying to get rid of DRM. If someone wants to pirate a game, eventually he will."

At this point, the managing director on The Witcher 3 project butted in to say: "But you can't do anything about it, so. We want to give the best user experience possible. When we removed DRM, people on those torrents were actually asking people not to download our game, because we [weren't using DRM]."

The CD Projekt RED team also appear to enjoy developing for the Playstation 4: "It's another platform, but PC-like. Which is cool."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set for release in 2014 on PC and Playstation 4.

as the years go on, i truly believe it's more about appeasing shareholders than anything else. DRM never solves anything. The DRM-Free pirate version of SimCity was the one that gave people a better experience on release day. No one wants DRM except for those that are so blind they believe it'll stop piracy!

Just as he said, pirates will go after you much harder if you put in DRM to punish the common user. Then the common user wants to pirate the games so they don't get screwed over by DRM. But without it, some people will still pirate it but you get your common user back and some piraters, so should make more money in the long run. Glad to see that their PS4 experience is coming along nicely too.

Ok well some have you enter a code each time you start up which can get annoying, some require you to be online at all times (If you lose connection while saving tough cookies) and my most hated is any DMR that block mods. That's my experience i'm sure a bigger PC gamer can give you more

Try playing the vanilla version of games like Skyrim and Fallout 3 then try the super special awesome Modded version and it's like playing a whole new game

To be fair the modding thing looks a lot of fun, never tried it though my laptop was created roughly the same time they discovered fire.
