Xbox Tournaments added to Xbox 360 dashboard

Microsoft has today added Xbox Tournaments to the Xbox 360 dashboard, giving you the chance to take part in your favourite games via free-to-enter tournaments.

Xbox has teamed up with Virgin Gaming to offer the exclusive app which allows Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers of any skill level in the U.S., U.K. and Canada to play in free-to-enter tournaments with the opportunity to make their way up the daily, weekly and monthly leaderboards to win their share of 100,000 US dollars cash.

Starting today, you can participate in tournaments for popular games including FIFA 13, NBA 2K13, Madden NFL 13 and NHL 13, with many more titles to come.

To begin you'll need to download the app from Xbox LIVE and register for a Virgin Gaming account.

I wish the PS3 had this option. Too much hassle having to go on to the Virgin website and set it all up really. I raised a bit of last minute cash for my holiday to Magaluf by beating people at FIFA 12 back in August.

Anyone else see the irony in Virgin Gaming?

Great idea, but pressing users into having to sign up for a Virgin account? Sounds like they may just be getting more creative with those "promotions" that are all over my dashboard these days.

Surely this has come a few years too late?

Is the money still under $$$'s? I know it's only a little thing but really winds me up. Surely should be a £ option.

Makes even less sense when you consider Virgin are essentially a UK company.
