Friday Chat: April 12

It's Friday, so what are your plans for the weekend? Do they involve gaming? If they do, what game will you be playing?

I'm celebrating friday with a coffee and a muffin.

What about you?

probably a little Army of 2-3, but hoping for a day long trip to the flicks for Oblivion and The Place Beyond the Pines! That coupled with an inordinate amount of stuff on my Sky planner and the Ultimate Fighter Finale Saturday night, the PS3 might get a bit of a break. Happy Friday all. Only a few more hours until home time!

Friday - Nothing. Girlfriend is ill so getting in a pizza and will probably watch a movie or something. May buzz through the Ultimate Fighter series in prep. for the main show. Only saw a few like Josh Sammans first fight, Uriah Halls fights and Kelvins first fight. Saturday - Going to look for trophys for our FIFA Fest in 2 weeks. We have a 'plate' but it's not very big or great looking. So we're going for a big trophy or shield. 22 of us, Couple of quid each. Then my mates having a few of us round for drinks, fifa and banter. Sunday - Wake up hungover, get breakfast, watch TUF Finale.

This season of TUF is actually pretty good. me and wife blew through them last weekend. all but Wednesday's semis! some very good fights, and I found a lot of respect for Chael Sonnen with this season. so it's worth a butchers.

I only caught some when on ESPN. I've seen all the series, and I've heard good things about this one. Won't ever beat Series 5 though, with Nate Diaz, Gray Maynard etc. That was great. - But yeah. I'll get on top of this. Josh Samman used to post updates every week of the show on bloodyelbow.com but got banned from doing so by UFC brass incase he ruined it.

And Chael has come across as a brilliant coach, which you'd expect given his age/wrestling pedigree. I love him all together really, and you can see how good a character he can play while also being a really genuine guy. Gets a lot of stick for selling fights like a boss.

I'm starting the Metal Gear Hd trilogy on PS3 tonight, i have already platted the vita versions so i'm hoping to transfer the saves and listen to the beautiful chorus of trophies chain popping, clean up any remaining MGS2 and 3 trophies then start the long road to the peace walker plat. And when i'm not on the PS3 i'll be busting away at Guacamelee on Vita, BRING ON THE WEEKEND!

I'm still waiting on Metal Gear 1 going on deal before I start the Trilogy and MGS4 but I am playing the MSX Metal Gear game and they are quite good

I think your doing the right thing, MGS should definately be played before the trilogy and 4. I'm pretty sure it has been on sale before for around £4 on the psn store so i'm not sure if they will do it again but they seem to do it quite regularly with the psone final fantasy games. Also it would be cool if some time down the road they add trophies to MGS now that they are able too. I'm looking forward to starting Sleeping Dogs at some point too.

I admit to not really liking Sonnen. He's a great fighter. but his attitude irks me sometimes. I prefere a fighter that is at least respectful of his opponent and Sonnen generally isn't. But he has shown a different side of himself in this season of TUF, and i'm finding a lot of respect for him!

The thing with Sonnen is he knows that Pro-wrestling persona that he used on Anderson (He didn't use it v Bisping or Stann) sold that fight, and his rematch like MAD. He then talked his way in to a title fight in division he doesn't even fight in, while also getting any big money fight versus any Brazilian fighter he wants. He's a very well spoken guy, very genuine on TV and stuff, but as soon as he switches to PPV sell mode, he doesn't care about anything but selling. His countdown on twitter to Jones is brilliant. It's why Dan Hardy got a lot fo stick too, as he sold a fight he had no chance of winning with GSP, but in all the primetime shows etc, he's one of the best spoken and nice UFC fighters about.

Oh absolutely. It's a first impression thing for me, and I don't like people that talk shit AFTER the fight. I lost a lot of respect for Lesnar after he done it to Mir! You had your fight, your done, shut up! I've been there, I've done it, and respect is the only thing that there should be between the two guys in the ring afterwards. Sonnen just went too far one too many times after the fight for me, pre-fight, selling, hell yeah (although i wanted to kill Ortiz for the shit he threw at Hamill pre-fight!) but afterwards, shake hands and be done. But like I say, I'm changing my mind about sonnen very quickly with TUF. he's being a gent and I am gladly eating my previous words about the man.

To be fair to Chael, he did shake Andersons hand after the fight, but he knew he made a shedload of money from the fight, and so just went into uber-Chael mode again to try and distract from his problems outside of the ring with the Athletic comission and the police. I can respect Lesnar as a fighter, but I've just never really liked him as a person. Your love will grow for Sonnen once he puts out Jones...lol. I think he's got no chance, but if anybody does, it's someone with the balls and chin of Sonnen.

He did, no doubt, and frustration had definitely set in by the end of that fight! And I would kill to see him beat Jones. Lesnar if a different kettle. I respect how he chooses to live his life in the quiet, and as a person he's alright, but as a fighter, he needed to learn a lot more instead of give up the first time he took a bad beating! (bobby lashley done something similar in SF, first time he saw his own blood, he quit) My feelings on a lot of fighters fluctuates a lot. I bloody HATE Cain Velasquez as a person, but as a fighter, he's amazing! But the opposite can be said for people like Lesnar, I respect him as a person, but as a fighter, he gave up too easy (i know he was ill, but it isn't stopping him from doing WWE)

Yeah, you have to respect the fact Lesnar came in, and although he couldn't handle a punch, he was a changed man after that surgery. I believe the same Brock who dominated Randy/Mir would have trucked Overeem, but having to take any sort of punishment to the body just wasn't worth it. Bobby Lashley was also a very bad gas tank ready to explode. You hate Cain?! Impossibru! I love Jon Fitch, even though his fighting style may not be exciting, he's a genuinely nice dude. Same with Condit, he's a brilliant fighter and a very good guy.

I respect Lesnar for trying, but leaving and going back to WWE knocks down my sympathies a little. My thing with Velasquez is that bloody tattoo! If lesnar walked in with a tat that said "white pride" he's be pushed from sport almost permanently, It's daft, I know, But as someone who has been stripped down by the police to check that none of my tattoos are racially motivated, it irks me! I love fitch, and it's a shame the UFC cut him, Condit, Hardy and a few others I'll always cheer for. I'm a massive Mir fan too. He has that martial arts spirit that he inherited from his old man and I love it. And pretty much anyone with the surname Silva or Gracie, I love the pedigree that comes in the name!

Figure Lesnar just realised he'd never be a UFC Champion again, so he only wanted money. It's why he told Dana he'd only take a fight with Fedor now, and that'd be £££ for him. Brown Pride and White Pride are different things though. They have different conotations. I understand what you're saying, and it's one ugly as hell tattoo aswell. UFC cut him because he was apparently too 'expensive'. I think they cut him so he could go to Bellator and truck their entire division. But since Bellator didnt bite, he's now on a WSOF where he'll prove he's still an elite fighter. I like Mir, especially his sub on Nogueira which was epic. He has a cocky attitude, but I appreciate that he's the best sub artist in a division that they only encourage you to punch people in the face. I'd agree, but some of the Gracies I just don't like lol. And Thiago Silva, who could have been so much bigger if he wasn't a drug cheat. The fact that he'd managed to get rid of Vera from the UFC, to only get caught cheating, so Vera got back in!

Jesus! That sub make me wince just watching that. I understand the connotations, but from a personal level, the tattoo bugs me a little. Right, gonna go home. haha! Good talking about this stuff though, nice finding someone knowledgeable to talk to about it though! Right, been kicked out the office. Have a good weekend all!
