Castle of Illusion to get HD release

Classic Sega Megadrive game Castle of Illusion is to be remade in HD for the PlayStation Network and presumably other platforms

The news was revealed via the PS Blog so only a PSN version is confirmed at the moment, however we suspect that a PC and Xbox LIVE version and possibly a Wii U version will also be released.

"We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive," said Mai Kawaguchi, Senior Digital Brand Manager, SEGA.

"We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn't be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles."

Many of the 'iconic' moments from the original game are said to be present and correct.

Currently there is no release date.

It's been shown for PC, 360 already too. Wii U is being listed by stores (the same ones who listed the likes of Splinter Cell before it was announced to be coming over.)

Interesting. I loved this game as a child so I will be looking into this! This is a great year for remakes! (this game, duck tales, superfrog, etc...!)

I never thought to much of this game being announced, despite linking the original game. But that all changed when I saw the screenshots and trailer, it looks awesome :)

Worth noting that Sega are already in the process of closing down the studio making this title, with them being done as soon as they get the game completed. It's very likely that the ticking clock now placed on them has resulted in the previously listed Vita and Wii U versions of this being canned, as lets face, if you're suddenly placed on a literal deadline you'll be prioritising which products are worth the most to you to get done, and neither Wii U nor Vita is going to be a priority for anyone in that scenario.
