Gearbox buys Homeworld from THQ

Gearbox Software has purchased the Homeworld franchise from the now defunct THQ.

The news comes via a statement from the developer which says, "Gearbox Software has prevailed as the highest bidder in the acquisition of the Homeworld franchise from THQ,"

"Brian Martel, Gearbox Software's Chief Creative Officer, has great love and respect for Relic's brilliant, fun and innovative game and personally spearheaded the acquisition."

No specific details on the bid were disclosed, however Gearbox is already looking towards the future of the franchise.

"Brian intends as first priority to direct Gearbox's interest to preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today's leading digital platforms."

"Please visit the Gearbox Software Forums to share with us and Brian what you think should be done with Homeworld moving forward. And, please try to get our attention if you have capability and interest to join the effort in developing or enabling Homeworld's future."

We are still awaiting to hear the fate of THQ's other remaining game properties, which includes the Darksiders series amongst others.

If they do to this what they done to Aliens and Duke, I will have to kill someone. I've been waiting for Homeworld 3 for far too long and I really wanted it to go to a decent developer. And outside of Borderlands, Gearbox haven't done anything to peak my interest in years. They have turned into a real one-trick pony. Not overly impressed with this

The only successful game that Gearbox has is Borderlands, the other ones are c**p. Don't get me started with Aliens Colonial Marines or Duke Nukem Forever. Also how good are they at developing strategy games? I think that time will tell, but for now, I won't get my hopes up.

I'm still pinning my hopes on a decent Brothers in Arms game. Now they toog the BIA tag from that awful looking Furious Four, hopefully something good will come from the franchise
