Newsround, April 23: Sony Santa Monica, Bulletstorm 2, Thomas Was Alone

It's time for today's Newsround, although there isn't too much to talk about today.

Let's have a look.

PS4 Share Button was Sony Santa Monica's idea

The DualShock 4's Share button was pitched to SCE bosses by Sony Santa Monica creative director Nathan Gary, according to a new Edge interview with Sony Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida.

"After the core hardware, the CPU and GPU, had been decided the project shifted to designing and discussing what should be the user experience of people who be playing games on PS4," Yoshida told the magazine. "So we formed the cross-functional groups of people from SCEI hardware group and Worldwide Studios and Sony network services teams to meet every month, almost. And Mark [Cerny] was heavily involved and leading some discussions. And the idea of sharing and seamless integration with social networks, that was heavily discussed."

So there we go. There's more to Sony Santa Monica than God of War.

People Can Fly have ideas for Bulletstorm 2

People Can Fly founder Adrian Chmielarz told Eurogamer he had plenty of ideas for Bulletstorm 2, although he's now left the company.

"The thing is, we did want to make Bulletstorm 2, and actually there was a concept and, I think, it would be an amazing game," he said, although it seems that it turned out to be a bit of a no go.

Chmielarz also looked back on the original game, saying that the marketing campaign perhaps did not help sales so much.

"I think it was bad," he said. "The way I blamed myself for it was I basically enjoyed it too much. Initially I asked can we do it so it sells the game as an action-adventure, a pulp sci-fi rollercoaster, and not do the Bad Company 1-style of campaign of silliness and jokes? And then they showed me some marketing materials and I was laughing and like, 'OK that's funny, let's do this,' and that was a mistake."

He did ask for a more serious marketing trailer in the end, although it seems like it was perhaps a little too late to convince people to actually buy the game.

Thomas Was Alone arrives for PSN tomorrow

The simply wonderful Thomas Was Alone arrives on PSN tomorrow.

Described by its developer as "A game which began as a Flash game made over a weekend because my girlfriend was away and I was a bit bored," will finally arrive on PS3 and PS Vita via PSN and for free via PS Plus.

"Thomas Was Alone is a game about friendship and jumping, it is also very much about rectangles. If you've got PS Plus and you're in the EU, you can download the game as part of the IGC at no additional cost. Which is awesome.

"This version will also give you first access to some new stuff. There's a new DLC episode which tells the story of Benjamin, a new square with a jetpack and big ideas, and a commentary mode in the main game where you can listen to me going on and on about how clever I was putting the game together."

We played the PC version a while back and loved it, so we'd highly recommend checking this game out.

That's about all from this evening's Newsround. Thanks for taking time to read it.

Bulletstorm was a nice title. For about £10 or so anyways. I like to put stuff up, cannot remember what I have and have not recently so: Road Rash Spirtual Successor is coming. Named Road Redemption. Coming to PC, MAC and Wii U Apparently Miiverse is coming to PC and Mobiles this week also. Handy if you wanna hassle Nintendo to get Mother 3 to us (hint hint) White and Purple Pikmin announced for Pikmin 3. While most people expected them we didn't know for sure. Now we do. Another rumour: PS4, Wii U, PC and Next Box GTA V to be confirmed on May 16th? Nintendo to report a second year of losses. Last year was first ever loss for the company, this to be second. Iwata to take another pay-cut?

Before i played bulletstorm i thought it lookd great, Survival/wave multiplayer and cool story. But when i played it I didn't like it that much. I'm willing to play into it a bit more and see how i go. The playstyle is pretty cool sliding around with a whip thing.

Very interesting, didn't really enjoy the first Bulletstorm but I will definitely be looking into the second one to see what has changed.
