Rate The Rumour: Respawn game is Xbox exclusive

It's being reported that the first title from Respawn Entertainment - the studio behind Call of Duty, will in fact be an Xbox exclusive, arriving on both Xbox 360 and the next generation Xbox.

The new game is said to be a futuristic multiplayer-centric online shooter, described as "a battle of Davids and Goliaths". According to a report on Kotaku, the Davids are "heavily-armed foot soldiers," while "The Goliaths" are the giant exosekeltons - "Titans" - that these soldiers can pilot.

Apparently, according to the site's source, the game is "destined only for Microsoft console hardware," something which it says was consistent with information another source gave it earlier this month. Kotaku also reports that the game could be a timed exclusive, as neither source seemed to be able to clarify this. In our opinion, if this rumour is true, then a timed exclusive is more likely, since EA may not want to alienate the world of PlayStation completely.

Finally, Kotaku also reports that Microsoft is "aggressively" trying to sign exclusive games for Durango. Given the lack of internal development at Microsoft, signing the likes of an exclusive Respawn-EA game would help make up for this.

So what do you think?

4.5 I called an exclusivity deal the second John Ritto-whatshisface left. It's the smart thing for MS to do.

4 for me too, but as a timed exclusive. There is no way this will be exclusive for ever. Why would EA do that? They'd be throwing away millions.

4 - It's a pretty small exclusive at this point. They are the brains behind Modern Warfare BUT they are not Call of Duty if it becomes a big game then I doubt MS will keep hold of it like with most of their exclusives the sequels go multiplat

Very true. They'll learn from the mistakes they made with the PS exclusive stuff and they'll make a killing out of MS!

4 what I find interesting is the last line that microsoft are trying hard to get microsoft exclusive games. Whatever side your on would have to say Sony had the more exclusives this generation.

Sony spent alot of money keeping and acquiring studios over the last five years. MS chosae to focus on a few exclusivity deals (namely CoD) and seemed to neglect their first party studios.

4 for me too. Exclusives boost console sales and for some define which console to get, so wouldn't hurt Microsoft to try and get a few more, even if they're timed exclusives.

Ofcourse, if it's Respawn's game, Xbox can sell it with "From the creators of Modern Warfare" The sheep will come in from far and wide with that one line in the marketing!

4 - It seems logical that Microsoft will try to get more console exclusives for the next generation. I think that 360 had not that much exclusives (Halo, Gears of War). Mass Effect was Xbox360 exclusive for a limited time. Now is available on PS3 and PC too. Playstation 3 has way more exclusive.

Exclusives get console sales, then wheeling and dealing with high selling third party games like Call of Duty gets them that bit extra to give them the success they want.

4. Sounds like a very Microsoft thing to do! I suppose we will find out for sure on May 21st - very interesting if it's true!

4. Almost sure given some of the talk going around about production issues on MS first party Durango titles, leading to big time exclusives panic buying. Would be very surprised if it's permanent exclusive though, just getting it timed exclusive from EA is going to cost MS massive amounts if what they paid for that exclusive GTA4 DLC for a year is any indicator.
