Ubisoft Montreal consult 'real life' hacking firm for Watch Dogs

Ubisoft Montreal consulted a real world internet security firm during the development of its highly anticipated title, Watch Dogs.

Speaking in an interview with Joystiq, Ubisoft Montreal senior producer Dominic Guay said that it spoke to Kaspersky Lab in an effort to ensure the game's hacking is authentic.

"They have really hardcore experts there on hacking," Guay said. "We send them some of our designs and we ask them feedback on it, and it's interesting to see what gets back. Sometimes they say, 'Yeah that's possible but change that world,' or, 'That's not the way it works'."

Sounds like the developer is really taking the premise of the game seriously, let's hope that it shows once it gets here late this year.

Nice to know they actually did some research into the real world possibilities first, should make it more believable

Ubi Montreal always did take a lot of care and research their games. I remember watching the dev stuff for the first couple of AC games and being blown away at how seriously they took getting their facts straight. Watch Dogs looks better with every article I read

Publicity stunt, the in game 'hacking' will be nothing like the real thing, it'll be just pressing a button or some crappy minigame.

Of course it's publicity. Not one person that reads that is going to think that Ubi are going to teach them how to hack. But the idea that some kind of industry pro is helping to make the suspension of disbelief easier is nothing but a good thing.

Please describe the nature of the abuse:
