Rate the Rumour: 2013 European release for PS4

It's rumour time.

A new report (via CVG) suggests that Sony is planning to release its PlayStation 4 console in Europe this year and not next year as previously rumoured.

Apparently, with sales of both PS3 and Xbox 360 pretty much neck and neck in Europe, Sony is keen to avoid Microsoft stealing a lead in the region and is therefore diverting resources away from Japan and into the west.

There is no doubt that Europe generally leans towards PlayStation, with the exception of the UK which seems to favour Microsoft's machine, however the whole region is seen as winnable by Microsoft, so in this respect Sony is keen to see off any challenge from the Redmond giant.

Microsoft's new platform is to be revealed at the next Xbox event which takes place during work hours in the US, while also falling in prime time viewing hours for Europe. This means that Japan will be asleep when the event takes place, showing what Microsoft's intentions seem to be.

CVG reports that PlayStation is "prepared to do whatever it takes" to ensure there is no PS4 delay across Europe.

It sounds like a console war is coming.

5 - If the PS4 is released in North America in 2013, it will be released in Europe in 2013.

4 - I reckon Sony will work hard to get worldwide release. And in time for Christmas would be a very smart move

3 - if the rumoured supply issues are true then they may be short on units to release everywhere this year.

4 - Sony will probably want a global release since the next xbox is likely to be released the same year, but if Sony are short of units this year it will probably be Europe that gets screwed over before Japan.

KRATOS20, It's not like they can put Japan console models and bring them to Europe with X and O switched on controllers...
