App Store download total hits 50 Billion

Apple has announced that it's App Store download total has now reached 50 billion - Not bad for a store that only launched five years ago.

The figures break down as 800 apps downloaded every single second or two billion a month - which is quite incredible.

"Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for topping 50 billion apps downloaded," said Apple's Eddy Cue in a statement regarding the news.

"The App Store completely transformed how people use their mobile devices and created a thriving app ecosystem that has paid out over nine billion dollars to developers. We're absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years."

Interestingly, the 50 millionth download was 'Say the Same Thin' by Space Inch. It was purchased by Brandon Ashmore of Ohio, who received a 10,000 Dollar App Store gift token for his troubles.

Great for Branden of Ohio, but I see Apple going the way of Skynet eventually!

Absolutely meh... BTW some wrong math there - "two billion a month" will hit 50 billion in 2 years and 1 month, not in 5 years.
