PS4 and Xbox One point to bright future

We now know most of the stats for both Xbox One and PS4, so how do they compare in terms of raw power and features?

We have listed a table below courtesy of MAG which handily compiles everything known so far.

As you can see, in terms of raw power the PS4 is the most powerful console, although you could also say that was the case this generation and both consoles sales balanced out pretty evenly before the new generation was announced, with PS4 only thought to be in the lead in sales by a small margin.

That's not to say Microsoft has forgot about gamers of course, it's just that at last night's presentation it chose to focus on the non-gaming aspects, leaving the main event for E3. The company has already promised 15 exclusive games for E3, three of which we already seem to know about in Forza 5, Ryse and Quantum Break, the latter of which is from Remedy.

Sony will also be pretty strong at E3 we imagine and will at least match the number of exclusives that Microsoft has planned thanks to its large network of first party studios. We already know of Drive Club, Killzone Mercenary, Knack, inFamous Second Son and Deep Down and you can imagine that there will be a lot more on the way.

We also think that both companies have plenty more up their sleeves in terms of console specific features and then of course there will be the continued support for both PS3 and Xbox 360 - can we expect price cuts?

The next generation of consoles is looking very exciting, but the current generation is far from finished.

The Xbox One has DDR3, not GDDR3 Ram. ;) Still A Pay Wall behind used games, kinect being mandatory and having to register/install every game isn't what i would call a bright future. Spec's are meaningless if your taking away the main advantages of being a console. Might as well get a PC.

Yup, PS4 is the more powerful console and will be the better one this gen by far. Remember those Durango/Orbis rumours stating that Orbis would have 1.8TF and Durango would have 1.2TF? I'm starting to thing that was true. Sony came right out and said 1.8TF and Microsoft came out by telling us about how many transistors they had :|. The GDDR5 is for graphics so this will be amazing given the higher bandwidth and latency compared to DDR3. The fact that X1 runs 3 OS's at once isn't going to help its DDR3 at all. Lets not forget that your kinect always has to be in for X1 to work. what happens if it breaks? What if the connector snaps for whatever reason? You are screwed!

@Arun1910 each of the 3 OS on the Xbox one uses a 1gb of ram as well. the PS4 uses 1GB so 7gb vs 5gb

TBH i want whichever one has a better graphics card that way game designers have more to work with and the console has better chance of having better graphics on games. plus ive always been an xbox person and ive noticed that they haven't actually brought anything new to the tables just brought a revamped and improved version of what they have already like voice command,kinect,tv... all them things they announced the xbox 360 already has theyve just improved them.... i mean look at the main menu..., it looks identical to the xbox 360's menu, they could've at least changed it... this year i might just buy a wii U because ive always liked nintendo just for the sheer enjoyment and ease of there games, as for power and intense gameplay might have to hop over the sony and buy a ps4 this year and skip on the xbox :/

A better graphics card doesn't always mean better graphics (I hate that word)

Whichever incorporates motion control the least, will have the better chance of getting my money. It is the worst thing to ever happen to the gaming industry, and I'm holding that f**king Wii responsible...

Wii U + PS4 = covered. Like last gen there was absolutely no reason to own a X-Box if you owned a PS3. Unless you were desperate for the.....four(?) exclusive titles they had out

Wonder what happens if you don't connect your X1 to the internet every day?

Can anyone confirm if the HDMI input on the XBox None is a lie? I've read online that it won't have an HDMI input at all and that was some kind mistake they made at the conference. Also the Kinect 2 will take up another 1gb of Ram apparently, so I'll stick to the PS4, PC and Wii U this gen. Paying a fee for used games and the tv service only being available for America for some time sounds ridiculous, too.

It will only have a HDMi input that as i understand it will support 1080p, (Given) 3D & even 4K (Like any normal person has a 4K set)

Christ this is a depressingly slow train wreck to witness. That chart doesn't even take into account the console GPU either, which is something like 30-50 percent more powerful on PS4 than XBone. Microsoft have really let me down. I can think of no other way to put it. A games console with gaming as a secondary concern isn't something anyone who enjoys games should be getting behind.
