Killzone: Shadow Fall downloads first level and then you can play

Killzone: Shadow Fall will be playable on the PlayStation 4 as soon as the menu and first level is downloaded.

Developer Guerrilla has revealed buying the game digitally will be able to jump into it almost immediately, rather than having to wait until the full game is downloaded.

"You're going to download a chunk of the game, get the menu and first level, and while you're playing the first level we can start downloading the second in the background," technical director Michiel van der Leeuw explained in the latest developer diary.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is just one of the games announced for PS4 so far, along with other titles such as Knack, Driveclub and Infamous: Second Son.

people say Sony have great exclusives but in Europe these games sell nowhere near as much as say call of duty from america to Europe ratio's on game sales. naughty dog are the only dev atm that really make me want to get a ps4 over the xbox one but im not going on a rant why xbox one sucks as i cannot be bothered.

Makes sense given what Sony announced the PS4 can do. Only problems people might find is if you have a bad download speed will level 2 be ready when you complete lvl 1? (particularly day 1 unless a pre-load system is implemented - which might happen)

Gotta keep the digital download price down first. It's great that I can leave it downloading for a bit and start playing before it's finished, but if I've paid £20 over the odds for the game, it's a no-go. Give Guerrilla and Sucker Punch a chance mate. Sony are gonna come out swinging this year!

No game sells as much as COD or FIFA as they are all around yearly games which you can play 24/7 really. Sony has great exclusives, that sit on their console only. I doubt many people will buy the game digitally ASC to bother about the 'speeds' on day one really.

I wonder how it would work for an RPG or something open worldy like GTA.

Well, you see plenty of day 1/preorder download on PC/steam. there isn't currently a culture of that on the console platforms, but if there is a pre-load and activation to enable games at release date there is no reason we won't see more people doing early digital purchases (unless its more expensive)
