PlayStation Plus not needed for Free-to-Play games

Not every multiplayer PlayStation 4 game will require PlayStation Plus since free-to-play publishers will have the choice to opt out, which is exactly what Sony Online Entertainment has done.

Speaking in an interview with Polygon, SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said, "As far as free-to-play games are concerned, it’s a publisher’s decision whether they put it inside or outside of the PlayStation Plus requirements.”

Sony Online Entertainment already confirmed that both DC Universe Online and Planetside 2, won’t require PlayStation Plus subscriptions.

I'm thinking that the MMO titles won't require PS+ I mean why would you pay to pay to play a game

But.....we'll be paying for the extras elsewhere in these?

Yeah cause that's what free-to-play is about. Though you don't need to if you don't want to.

So I'm guessing other services (such as Lovefilm and Netflix) wont be stuck behind the paywall of PS+ like they are with Xbox Live Gold at the moment?

That is already confirmed, PS+ is only required to play certain multiplayer titles, nothing else.

Media service as Netflix won't require PS+ to work. Guess that means Lovefilm won't either.
