PS4 coming November 21?

The PlayStation 4 sounds like it may be released in the UK on November 21.

According to the Sun newspaper (Via Behind Games), the console will be released on the above date and to add to these rumours, a popular UK retailer is also listing launch titles as being released on the same day.

We aren't sure if this date is guess work on behalf of both of the above given that the Xbox One is also said to be releasing on the same day. Given that Sony seems to have the upper hand on Microsoft at the moment though, we'd expect that they wouldn't want to give the Redmond giant any advantage whatsoever.

What do you think?

THe ad is amazing! Trade ins? yes. Internet needed? No! I love it. dig after dig after dig at MS' inability to answer a question properly! Release date is cool. I'll be about 3 months behind the rest of you. No point in me getting the machine on release. Feb seems perfect for me. Just looking at booking time off for it! haha!

Releasing the console on the same day as any current gen game would ruin the sales of that game. I feel a little sorry for Watch_Dogs in this case, PS3 and 360 sales will be pretty low in comparison to what they could be. The same with any game released after PS4 and One releases.

Microsoft have the same restriction on pre owned as PS4 its down to the developers. Also even if it didnt that no longer matters. With Xbox One Family setting means your family dont have to be blood related but 10 friends on my friend list. Means I can download their games for free and play them and they can do the same with mine. Stand aside preowned. Plus Im always online anyway so no hard ship for me. They are selling the PS4 off the bad vibes of Microsoft not about how good the console is.

Well ill be buying an xbox. Anyone who doesnt understand the info ms has now put out is, well, a bit thick. Looking forward to not having to buy two copies of any game/dlc ever again, now that I can add my son on the family option, allowing him access to all my content upstairs on his own console. Great

Actually, I'd say that the company paying for the advertising (NOT SONY) are selling off the bad vibes. And if they are well known enough for Joe average sun reader to know about, I'd say they were bad enough that MS need to cut their bullshit and tell me EXACTLY what I can and can't do with the console. Anyone that is reading what these people are saying and not realising the wording they use has gone through committee to allow for wiggle room is, to use a previously used phrase, a bit thick. Each to their own, fair do's. but I won't sit in the way of MS' bullshit tidal wave. I'll wait until things are clearer thanks.

Well greg, according to xbox support on twitter it does have to be in the same household. Also only the master account can play the games digitally all the others need the disk so only two of you can play it at once.

This was in the Sun newspaper the day after the Xbox and PS4 announcements at E3. What isn't seen, underneath, is the exact same set up for the Xbox One. The date for the PS4 is just a guess based on the fact Microsoft said they were aiming for a 21st launch date. Nothing more, nothing less. I mean, what else is expect by the Sun excepting making up news and guessing, before tiny little apologies three days later when, yet again, they were shown to be wrong?

You can trade your game in at any retailer, unless the.developer, turn10 studios, pits a block on their titles being pre owned. Its up to the developer, ms do NOT restrict pre owned in any way. Sony will probably do the same, allow decelopers to make their own decisions

XBOX ONE- A GAME OF CIRCLES Now onto the other things. As some of us know, you will be able to have a "circle" of friends, 10 people to be exact, that will be able to access your game library from anywhere (in the same region, I'm assuming..still not clear about this) at anytime (as long as you or someone else in your circle isn't playing it). This is of course how things work now, two of your friends can't play the game at the same time from one disc on two separate consoles. This is a feature that is absolutely wonderful, but the people raging about it had not heard about it before. "Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time." I absolutely love this feature. For example, my cousin is 200 miles away when he's away to college and I've let him borrow LA Noire and Dead Rising. I've yet to receive those games from him. With this feature, we don't have to be close in order for him to borrow any of my games! It's crazy as to how so many people dismissed this feature because it's a big jump forward in digital technology. No longer will my friends or family have to be close to me in order for them borrow one of my games. Important Update: New information has risen relating to this feature. You +1 friend from your circle can play the same game at the same time. Others can still play from your other library selection.

While in theory this sounds a good feature does anyone really think publishers or MS will seriously let just one copy of a game be bought and 10 users play the game? It makes no financial sense whatsoever for a company like M$ who is all about the dollar. Lets say I buy FIFA. 10 of my friends/family can play it even 2 at a time. I log on and want to play FIFA but two friends are playing it. Means I can't even though I bought it? I would be pissed.

@C the owner of the game has the control if you mates have downloaded the game and you want to play it will be down to you who plays and who does not. If more than 2 people want to play then someone else would need to buy the game.

its a great feature, no doubt. but it's limitations seem to be glanced over as much as it's advantages. I'm not saying that the XB1 is a bad machine, not at all. I'm saying that the cons far outweigh the pros and even the dumbest of people should be hearing warning bells at MS' refusal to give a straight answer to anything they are asked about this damn console!

oh dear it looks like the xbox spin got a few more suckers, i have been over this a million times so i wont bore myself with it, i would like to say however in a recent interview with major nelson angryjoe asked if the 10 people would be able to play at the same time to which he answered no, how is this any different from account sharing now? also adding that after "gifting" a game to your friend it will become un tradeable for them both, sony are not implementing the same restrictions just because microsoft have, look at nintendo and you'll see they dont have to. this is nothin new from microsoft as they having pulling crap like this for years and wrapping it in a neat bow but this time they choked on there silver tongue. support of xboxone is supporting the end of consoles!
ASC's avatar
ASC 3 years ago
The problem with the '10 people' is that the actual restrictions are unknown. There are ways to potentially make it a very useful system to us gamers - alternatively there are ways it can be set up to benefit just publishers - and currently how it will work is all speculation as microsoft have said absolutely nothing on the how of it - and most ms staff that have been asked don't seem to know yet either.

It's not official how you can share with friends by 10 like with family members. You may need a master 'parent' account and the rest would be child accounts. Potentially you or 9 of your friends would need to sacrifice their gamerscore from the last 7 years so that you could 'share' games with them as you have all been repping separate accounts. Sure it would be great buying a co-op game like Gears of War 8 or Army of Jack Bauer and you can buy it once and your buddy can play with you without buying it himself. Right THERE is the problem, all that money is gone from publishers and BAM games cost twice as much or they have to lock down the policy more to prevent little Jimmy from playing at the same time as cousin Egbert.

Just don't buy it's as good as it sounds. Lets say I'm a publisher. 10 people can play my game for the price of one. Ten groups of 10 friends buy 1 copy per group. You do the math and tell me that makes sense to a publisher?
Anonymous user's avatar
Matthew 3 years ago
The info about Xbox one is all there, a lot of people just don't want to or can't be bothered to look. Your ten friends can download and play any game in your library, as you can them. A 'family' member can even play the same game as you at the same time. Two family members can not play the same game of your play list but can play different games on your play list. You do not need to be on the same console. Trust the facts, not the fiction.

The publishers know about this already thats why so many have signed onto the Xboxone its also the reasons why just like the PS4 its down to the publishers and developers to put a charge on pre owned games.

One thing is for sure, neither MS or Sony will want to let their release date slip too far behind the other's. I only ended up getting a 360 because the PS3 was massively delayed (past Christmas) and I've favoured MS's machine ever since and will likely stick with them into the next gen, as most of the restrictions do not apply to me and I find the games as well as multimedia applications more appealing.

Publishers still have the option to block sharing. I would guess that EA, Activision and Ubisoft would be the ones to block sharing the most especially on their big titles. No chance would Acti let CoD be shared they don't even let people have it early or for less than RRP.

Is that the only good point about the console though? Seriously? You and a buddy can play a game that you own together? great. an excellent feature, but won't be used much except to lend the occasional game to your buddy. What about the lack of response as to the probability of stores having to buy in to MS' trade-in scheme, killing trade in prices. what about the fact it has to call home when your internet has gone down but you still want to play forza? what about the fact that half the shit they are selling the console on won't be available here not just at launch, but probably ever? a couple of good points does not detract from the fact that not only are we in the UK/EU not the XBone's target audience, but we as gamers are not the primary concern for them. now while Sony will undoubtedly have a similar setup (i would bet that digital sharing makes an appearance at some point) but they are at least being clear with what we can and can't do.
Anonymous user's avatar
Gregg 3 years ago
They are only being clear because the thing is at its core a very basic games console which Sony have said before the games console industry is dead. So all they made is a games console? In all honestly I can really see them releasing a PS4.2 by the time this next gen is finished. Microsoft know the future in gaming is though downloads has been for a while. With Cloud gaming microsoft can make the console 3 times more powerful making it future proof :)

The future of gaming isn't in downloads until my internet stops sucking. the percentage with internet fast enough, that isn't capped, to allow the 25gb your downloaded games will be is too small to be the future just yet. Sony have also said that they will have cloud processing ability and have been pushing day one downloads for over a year now. I can also see xbox releasing another version of the xbone by the time the generation is done (if it ends) both current consoles are on their third interation for this generation, this is not a new thing. the fact is, sony have made a games console, that also does media stuff. the same as the PS3. MS have gone the other direction and made a media device, that has the ability to play games. no one believe the console industry is dead. look at the sheer amount of disc that are sold everytime a new game comes out. phone/tablet and handheld gaming will take see an increase, but not all those people will be console gamers. the numbers of console gamers hasn't dropped by the same amount as iphone gamers has risen.

@Gregg i want a basic gaming console ( which btw playstation 4 is more powerful) i dont want a gimped DVR laced with DRM and i definitely dont want a download only console, i personally only buy arcade games from psn because both ms and sony charge way to much for full games, i dont no a single person who buys games through download exclusively, its not the future, the future is having your game in your hands and actually owning it, your letting a console maker dictate your future when its us the gamer who decides, are you willing to still pay 50-60 quid for forza in say three years time because thats what you'll be doing in there future, just look at games on demand, the prices on there are disgusting and that is where the download only future falls flat, in that future how else would you buy a game if not from them?

PS3 is already utilising the 'cloud' (fucking awful term BTW) The Last of Us if bought from the PSN store can be played while still downloading after 70% mark the same can be said for a few games. 'cloud' is all well and good but the issue is that instead of loading the game into RAM or raping the processor for power it's going to be killing your internet which in this country is on average SHOCKING. Games that rely heavily on the cloud are going to have load times that reflect your internet speed, not good for Joe 2meg.

It depends on the company using the term and the context it's being used in. in MS' case, I believe (note, believe, not KNOW OUTRIGHT) that the point to the "cloud" is to do offsite data processing for your box. An example I can think of would be possibly, a few years down the line when we are at the stage we are at now when games size exceeds the size of the disc. instead of a second or third disc, the publisher will instead require an always connected state to play the game and some of the processing and rendering will be done at, for example, the EA servers and pumped directly to your machine's RAM for use. Best example I can come up with not knowing their specs. hope it helps mate.

Lets get things clear it was around the time of PS2 and PS3 where Sony said a Game console needs to be more than a games console it needs to be an Entertainment System. Which Sony state they are. Im saying The PS4 is no different to the PS3 its just more powerful and making use of online sharing. Just moving with the times so in today standards it is just in fact a games console. Secondly downloads are the future I agree not just yet but in time it will happen. I did not state its in a few weeks. Thirdly I couldn't care less what people buy its down to the person what they prefer. I just honestly believe not everything has been said or cleared up by Sony as of yet.

I'm sure that the Xbox one will be fine for most people when it comes out, the problem is the new arrangements cause problems for various groups of people, and what we know suggests we'd all have to put in extra effort to do what we can already do on other systems. Now most people won't mind so long as they get something out of doing all this, Problem is that apart from a few exclusives there is very little announced to draw core gamers to it and the perception is that we can get a better deal going PS4 or PC
