PlayStation Plus won't 'gate' Netflix, other TV services

SCEE UK & Ireland MD Fergal Gara has told Videogamer that auto-update, which is currently available only to PlayStation 3 owners with a PlayStation Plus subscription, will be free for all PlayStation 4 owners.

In addition, Gara also said that various 'social features' will also be available for free to non-Plus subscribers.

“If you choose not to subscribe we are still gating relatively little in many senses, so access to online catch-up TV and online movie services sit outside of the gate, for example.

“The social features of PS4 and PS4 games sit out of the subscription service, things like auto-updates on PS4 sit outside of PlayStation Plus, so we’re trying to be as balanced and as fair as we possibly can.”

This is completely different to Xbox LIVE, where you need to pay for an Xbox LIVE membership to gain access to many services such as Netflix, Sky Go etc.

Excellent. At least, in the future, if I have to cut my spending and not get plus for a couple of minths, I'm not left with a £400 paper weight! Excellent news! Begin the LIVE bashing in 3.... 2.... 1....

Rightfully so really. If you can't afford it you shouldn't be hamstrung by it.

Sky Go on Playstation is a must. It borders on the pathetic that you have to have gold on the adbox to access it

Please describe the nature of the abuse:
