New PS3 firmware out now; causing some issues

Sony has released a new system update for the PlayStation 3, although it may be a good idea to decline it for now as many users are reporting bricked consoles after updating.

Not all users are encountering problems after updating, in fact it seems to be mostly PS3s with 750GB and 1TB hard drives that are being affected. So it could be an issue with larger, self-installed drives.

This latest update allows users to deactivate trophy notifications from the system menu, as well as, ironically, addressing some system stability issues.

I have read that Sony have pulled it from the servers so it can't be downloaded anymore. If you grabbed it overnight via auto update, just tell it no when you start up. It's not a mandatory patch, not installing it won't effect getting online.

They should've included an option to remove the Singstar app and return the Trophies to the 'Game' section of the XMB
