PS4 meets Jimmy Fallon

Yesterday Xbox One appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Show and now it's the turn of the PlayStation 4.

"The big story that everyone's talking about is that this system is the only one where you can still play used games," Fallon said, before Sony's Mark Cerny replied "we support used games, we don't require an internet connection." Fallon notes in the video that this is "pretty major" before receiving audience applause.

Check out the video and some Knack gameplay below.

I love that for the last 2 years the whole game industry is been speaking about Download and maybe the new Xb1 and PS4 would have been only download... and Now they hate that is always connected to internet? are we saying that download will never be the future?....

I remain torn between Xbox One and PS4, I own both consoles this gen and they both have great experiences. For next gen my concerns seem opposite to everyone else. Sony seems to be keep mentioning they play used games and don't go online, but the games their showing in E3 were leaps and bounds behind the One (mostly because pretty much all they showed was non exclusives). If someone could also clarify not sure if it was my connection but did the games they were showing carry on freezing for a few seconds?

b3ddo3 > the funny part was that for the last 8 month Sony instructed all developers to make games with the camera and DRM, because the camera will be included in the box.. now all the developers have been told to take the camera function off the games and they are spending money to do so..

I can't stand alot of the presenters voices. They tend to get the most boring people or the least understandable people to announce stuff. Thankfully Sony went for Jack to present 80% of their press conference.

The Boss - That's just not true. You think Sony decided to tell everyone to put the camera in game, saw XBOX were charging £80 more, decided their £40 peripheral was no longer needed to get cheaper(Would still be cheaper WITH the camera) and then started paying companys to get rid of the camera features? OK then.....

Boss - I didn't know that either would have been great if Sony had gone first. Anyway the 24 hour connect don't bother me and I can only see EA stepping used games. Sony's we don't do what the other guys do at the moment for me is we don't do as many great games. Preordered both but can see me cancelling PS4 if things don't change soon.

Yeah that's true, most of the presenters annoy me, but the worst are Don Mattrick and this guy, thankfully Phil Spencer and Jack Tretton are not as bad, but still annoy me.

b3ddo3 > well the 24h connection is to check your DRM , "digital Right Management".. mean toknow if the game you are sharing with other device is active and used.. Lovefilm - sky on demand, Netflix use it.. so what is the problem?.. This day when you by a movie you also get the Digital version.. MS is giving you the same offer but to do so they have to know is yours with a DRM..

PikaNox, I know Sony do great games, but at the moment they haven't showed many. They have showed indie exclusives but that's not enough, Flower does not sell me a console The Last OF Us does. Microsoft have also stated there is a lot more to show from them. We will all see soon, I for one am looking forward to it.

But to be honest it was the same with 360 and PS3, at first Xbox was killing it with the exclusive games, then over the years they started dying down and PS3 took over.

It's Microsoft, my bet is they bring out the big titles at first to draw the "Hardcore" gamer in and then after a few years they go back to their beloved Kinect

b3ddo3 > What MS has to do for the second hand market is to just give you the option, on your xbox live account, to drop the DRM. Mean delete from your account your "Digital Right" and then you will be able to sell it..

Amusing to see Microsoft's brand association trickery at E3 has fooled a few people. For all the games they announced when you stack up every announced Xbone title against every announced PS4 title to date the PS4 list is still easily the bigger list of the two, so Xbone is still playing catch-up at this point as far as I can see. Most important difference of course was that Sony were deliberately only showing games that are going to be releasing inside the PS4 launch window at E3, whereas Microsoft were throwing out anything and everything they had footage for, including games that were so early in development they didn't even have names yet, let alone actual in-game footage.

Most games at E3 this year will be at next years E3 too with release dates for fall 2014. The only exceptions being the ones from last years E3, the ones with release dates confirmed for this year and the ones featured in the Sony conference which were all launch window titles.
Whitey's avatar

I wouldn't call 2014 launch window, and most of the ones coming this year we already knew about.

considering the console is due out less than 2 months before the end of the year, I would indeed call 2014 Launch Window.
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
But most of them are spring or later so that's like half a year later than console release
Johno Muller's avatar

Launch Window is about up to the fifth month after launch. Which if you didn't know is March/April. Hell if EU gets the same kind of delay that PS3 was they will be launch titles for us.

b3ddo3 > What the hell are you smoking. Didn't show any exclusive games, huh. Knack, Infamous second son, Killzone, Driveclub, all of those indie games, plus all of those pc games that are coming to Ps4 and no word of them coming to XBONE, them being Warframe, planet side 2, etc.... Yes XBONE had exclusives being TitanFall, Ryse, some Kinect games, Forza, but for the most part, third party games make the bulk of the lineups. What exlusives does xbone have at launch Forza, certainly not Titanfall and Ryse, where Ps4 has all of the exclusives I've mentioned. Xbone titles at E3 where using Pc's to run there games, where on Ps4 they were running on dev Kits.

Dead Rising 3 is an Xbox one exclusive lanch title, and the indie games are not exclusive, most of them are already on PC and obviously Warframe and Planetside 2 are not exclusive.

PS4 launch title exclusives are.. Drive Club, Knack and Killzone. Xbox One launch exclusives are.. Dead Rising 3, Forza 5, Lococycle, Killer Instinct, Kinect Sports Rivals and Ryse.

Just an FYI here. Xbox One demo's were all running on Nvidia 700 HP PC's, which are about 3 times more powerful than the Xbox One. While PS4 demo's were shown on the PS4 devkit. Also PS4 exclusives are Deep Down, DriveClub, inFamous: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, Octodad: Deadliest Catch and The Order: 1886. PS4 is also around 50% more powerful than the Xbox One (as the Xbox puts 3GB aside for the 3 operating systems) and will play third party games a lot better than the Xbox. It's the superior console for a cheaper price (because it isn't bundled with kinect).
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
I was listing the launch day exclusives, and you think PS4 games will use all that 8GB RAM? games barely even use 4GB on PC's so 8GB is overkill and won't get used.
ASC's avatar
ASC 3 years ago
To be fair, we only have confirmation that some of the xbox one demos were on PC (though no confirmed dev kits). The evidence of PCs were a PC key prompt in one demo, a windows 7 error sound coming from another demo machine, and one demo case opening to show a pc with Nvidia chipset (700 series or better)
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
That is the only worrying thing, it doesn't actually say what card it was running on but the Nvidia 700 series is the latest ones and atm the lowest you can buy is the 770 which cost around £300+ and the Xbox one hardware GPU is supposed to be the same as an AMD Radeon 7790 which cost around £110+ so that's a huge difference.
ASC's avatar
ASC 3 years ago
I just had a sad thought. I think I heard a few months back that the xbox dev kits basically had the DRM server restriction (needed connection every 3mins or something crazy like that for the dev boxes). And given how in conferences like E3 tend to kill network connections due to all the traffic...
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
Well yeah, I understand why they used a PC, I mean didn't the games running on PS4 have issues with sounds and freezing, but they should of at least used comparable hardware, if they had used the AMD 7790 which is supposed to be more or less around the same GPU power as the X1 is using, then it wouldn't of been as bad.
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
But then again, using more powerful hardware doesn't make the games look better if the game is not programmed to use it, so the games will prob still look the same when you play them on Xbox One, because console games don't give you graphics options so it's not like they would of put the settings on ultra to make it look better.
ASC's avatar
ASC 3 years ago
In their shoes if they'd already made the decision to run it on PC you wouldn't pick the most capable machines to give the smoothest demo experience? with the assumption that the hardware its running on isn't supposed to be shown. Only sound/freezing issues I heard about was the microsoft demo reel - at least if there were problems on the demo boxes no one is reporting it as a newsworthy issue
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
Well yeah I guess picking a high end PC would of made sense to try and make sure it all goes smooth... guess that didn't work out any way though :P Also AC4 that was on the Sony conference was a mess, I'm sure he cut it off early too because it just kept locking up.

ASC 3 years ago
I stand corrected - forgot about AC4.
