Gara: PS Vita given 'shot in the arm' by PS4

Sony Computer Entertainment UK managing director Fergal Gara has said that PS Vita was development more with PS4 in mind than PS3.

Speaking in a new interview, Gara talked up the companionship between PS Vita and PS4, adding that he feels PS Vita will get a 'shot in the arm' from Sony's new console.

"[Vita] is a very worthy and better successor to PSP," Gara said. "Where it's been difficult has been proving the companion status for PlayStation 3. The fact is it was developed for PS4, much more than PS3.

"The number of things we could demonstrate and prove was limited - there's been some good examples - but now we go into the PS4 era, that companion device will look far more clear. We're optimistic it's got a lot more legs left in it and the PS4 has given it a shot in the arm."

Gara added: "When you consider something like Watch Dogs will be available for PS Vita via the Remote Play functionality it's very exciting. And the fact the PS4 is coming out at a well-received price point means it's not out of the question to own both."

Do you currently own PS Vita or do you think that being able to play PS4 games on your Vita will make you consider buying one?

I own a Vita but I doubt playing a PS4 game is going to be decent on it, due to R2 and L2 being missing, if you have to use the backtouch pad it'd put me off even more. I just want Vita to have more games I only have four, still I picked it up for a bargain and Persona 4 has been the most fun I have had on a RPG game in years

I recently bought one for exactly that reason. I've been camp 360 mostly but recently bought PS+ for my girlfriend's PS3 to play some great titles on both and catch up on some exclusives before jumping ship to PS4 next gen. The remote play functionality will be cool but I do hope they develop some more AAA titles specifically for Vita in addition to that and the indie games.

I hope that they do in fact follow through on these promises. I for one will probably be welcoming the remote play feature. I get the sneaking feeling that having a baby in the house will fuck up my gaming time. I'll take the VIta to bed and pay my games up there!

I got a Vita today, from ebay, along with an 8GB hard drive, and it's already nearly full, looks I'll have to take advantage of that transfer feture between Vita and PS3, unless the memory card prices change then digital purchases on the Vita will not take off.

I bought a Vita last week and I really enjoy it. I'm looking forward to remote play, its one of the reasons (But not the only reason) that I bought a Vita. Just need to get a bigger memory card now so I can use the games that I downloaded from PS Plus.

Well I'll be sending that Vita back, after downloading a few things for it I decided to try it out and the left shoulder button blatantly doesn't work... the wonders of Ebay.

I'm still waiting for these 50 games they promised for E3. PS3 Ports and Indie titles don't count.
