ShopTo to offer finance on consoles, games and accessories

ShopTo.net, The UK’s largest videogame and entertainment independent online retailer has today introduced new finance options (displayed at checkout) and is also adding an "Express" checkout button on each product page.

With these new improvements customers can select from a range of credit options (for example 12 to 36 months "classic" credit or 6 to 36 months INTEREST FREE credit) customers are also able to specify a deposit value (typically ranging from 10% to 50%).

“We are the first games specialist retailer to introduce a finance scheme " said ShopTo CEO, Igor Cipolletta, "Customers will be able to purchase their preferred console, along with games and accessories, starting from only £6.99 per month, or they could finally be able to afford all the consoles they ever desired, including the forthcoming Xbox One from £14.82 and PS4 from £12.06 or both for £26.88 per month.”

With the difficult current economic climate and the launch of the next generation of consoles only months away the UK customer will find it increasingly more difficult to satisfy their gaming desires. The market has already seen an increase in the non traditional credit businesses across the higher priced electronics and audio/visual industries.

Continued Igor, “We understand that when it come to new consoles  .......you've just got to have it, even if money is tight. Our finance checkout has been designed to make the shopping experience easier. You can simply add items you would like to the basket and apply for your choice of finance. We will make an instant decision and all in stock orders made before 5pm will be dispatched same day for next working day delivery.”

ShopTo Finance is applicable on any ShopTo.net order over £279.00 including VAT.

You can start ordering your consoles using ShopTo Finance today.

I foresee Shep's other half getting mighty pissed at him with this option. Bravo though. Not an option I'd take, but a good one for a lot of people!

25% more than what you're paying overall though? Just doesn't seem worth it if you're willing to pay up quicker. The interest free credit thing, surely just means you pay it back in 12 months for the £349? I'm not great with all this.

Well its nice to see a online retailer giving options like this and a console can be a significant purchase.

It is really good. previously you'd be paying through the nose to some douche bag catalogue if you couldn't pay up front. as they get more and more expensive, I see more places doing this.

So can you purchase a PS4 and say pay £70 a month so that when November comes its all paid off? Cause that would be handy instead of paying it all out in one big lump.

You could just buy vouchers, per month, and add them to your shopto account, so that when it comes to the date, you will have money in your account to do the purchase.

Just had a look at it and it seems I'm not eligible not having a job, bit silly that as it's the people with no jobs who are more likely to need the credit.

I've just checked the PS4 and I can't put down a finance option? Just shows "Finance will be available from TBC"

Seems like a good option for people who can't (or won't) buy day 1 but i'm the kind who likes to pay all at once (If I can) so I don't have anything to worry about so this doesn't affect me

yeah, that says to me that you won't be pre-paying for your console on finance.

Just for clarification: What finance options are available will vary depending on the product, interest free will only be available on certain products. Finance will only be available on preorders a few weeks before release.

Who runs your finance options? I am always interested in the background details . . .

what if we have already preordered a console? is this option still available from the preorders page in our account?
Dead's avatar

I may not have a job Mike, but I have income, easily enough to pay a £30 deposit and £8 a month afterwards.

If you place the preorder now you will still be able to pay with finance from preorders page between when it becomes available and time of processing (unpaid preorders at time of processing will be charged to card as normal).

Lol I already put £1000 aside for PS4 and games. I probably won't spend all of it but its there anyway. £1000 isnt really that much for me.

put the item in your basket, at checkout, hit "Finance" as your payment option! It's only available on stuff ove £279 and it's not available on pre-orders as far as I can see.
Dead's avatar

I thought it was already pretty clear, you can get finance on any item costing £280 or more, the items page will have a link above buy it saying get it on finance or something like that, there you can set your deposit amount and monthly payments, then you apply for the credit.

I think the article could do with being a bit clearer on the distinction between the interest rates. As far as I can see finance for the next-gen consoles has an interest rate of 25% which is a lot of money, albeit not Wonga proportions! What exactly can you get interest free credit on?
DynamiteWhyte's avatar

In the article it talks about 'games and accessorys' aswell with the consoles, so can you match stuff up and do it that way too? Or is it only one item?
troublemaker's avatar
troublemaker 3 years ago
in fact, if you add a 300 note 360 or ps3 to your basket, you go to the basket and select finance, you can then select from a load of 0% options. As for games/accessories, loaded 300 quids worth of stuff into my basket, the finance options appeared, but no 0% option.

I might give it a go in a couple of weeks when I have the money spare for the deposit, see if I can pass the check, the other half works, and my bank thought i was a safe enough bet to loan me a couple of grand a few years back.

Looks good for certain customers and it's a great addition, it's a feature I won't make use of though, fortunately I can afford purchases outright. Even the consoles.

I added a 3DS XL and a few games to my basket just out of curiosity. It gives 4 options for finance, but it won't let me change my deposit. I keep getting the error message saying that it's not in the valid range, but it seems to acknowledge I've change it in the overall amount to pay above. Should the repayment options change too if I'm putting down a bigger deposit? They all seem to be based off the £29 default.

Paying interest on the total value no matter what the deposit. Big ask for most people I'd say...
