Defense Grid: The Awakening goes free on Xbox LIVE

Microsoft’s Games with Gold program has kicked off with Defense Grid: The Awakening - a 2009 Xbox Live title that normally retails for 800 Microsoft Points being given away for free.

The Games with Gold scheme was announced at E3 with both Assassin’s Creed II and Halo 3 confirmed as two of the games which will appear before November, although no set dates have been revealed for these games going free as of yet.

The next free game for this month will be announced on July 16.

I mentioned this in the chat thread earlier. Looks like Assassins Creed and Halo are the highlights of the free games and not the first games to be given away free.

So let me get this right. XBL customers are getting this XBLA game for free not the games mentioned at E3. so the games they mentioned at E3 (AC2 and Halo 3) were their BIG games to try and get people excited? Well played Microsoft. :)

AC2 and H3 are coming, eventually! typical MS they will sell this as we have given an extra free game compared to the 2 we promised!

It does make you wonder how the 10 people sharing a game was gonna work as recently Microsoft have been leading people to believe one thing then come out with something completely different.

LMAO and I thought AC2 and Halo 3 were bad choices, I probably would have picked up AC2 to be honest and played it through again, but this is not even worth the download time.
