Microsoft Japan has branded Japan as a 'Tier 2' country, meaning that the Xbox One will not be launched in the far east until 2014.
Japanese gaming site 4Gamer [via] spoke to Microsoft Japan President and CEO Yasuyuki Higuchi after the firm failed to even mention the console during a press conference yesterday.
During the interview Higuchi confirmed "For the launch of Xbox One Japan is a Tier 2 country and not a Tier 1 country, so it’ll come with the second wave, that will be delayed a little bit [compared to North America]."
Interestingly the interviewee ended the interview with the words, "please don’t report [this news] too negatively," so it seems Microsoft are pretty keen not to upset anyone.
It's hardly surprising that Microsoft is launching in Japan at a later date given that the far east is not really a key market for the Xbox brand at the moment, although Microsoft will be keen to change that this time around.
