Japan 'Tier 2' Market for Xbox One, launching 2014

Microsoft Japan has branded Japan as a 'Tier 2' country, meaning that the Xbox One will not be launched in the far east until 2014.

Japanese gaming site 4Gamer [via] spoke to Microsoft Japan President and CEO Yasuyuki Higuchi after the firm failed to even mention the console during a press conference yesterday.

During the interview Higuchi confirmed "For the launch of Xbox One Japan is a Tier 2 country and not a Tier 1 country, so it’ll come with the second wave, that will be delayed a little bit [compared to North America]."

Interestingly the interviewee ended the interview with the words, "please don’t report [this news] too negatively," so it seems Microsoft are pretty keen not to upset anyone.

It's hardly surprising that Microsoft is launching in Japan at a later date given that the far east is not really a key market for the Xbox brand at the moment, although Microsoft will be keen to change that this time around.

But what's the point now region lock has gone, just buy one from the closest country near you that is selling them at launch.

No one in Japan cares about Xbox (Maybe 5%)

Yeah seems kind of pointless trying to market for Japan sales when PlayStation and Nintendo dominate in that area.

Japan don't care about Xbox One and Microsoft don't care about Japan, so conclusion: Xbox One will have same boring titles as 360.

Understandable, far and away it's worst territory. MS doesn't need their backing anyway.
