PES 2014 will not be released on PS4/Xbox One due to uncertainty surrounding install base

Marking executive Manorito Hosoda has told CVG that the slow adoption rate of new consoles is the reason that PES 2014 will not make its way to next generation consoles.

“We’re not sure how quickly the uptake of the next generation will go”, he said, adding that "before moving on" the studio "wants to make a good game with the new engine.”

Another PES man, Jon Murphy, acknowledged the dilemma while giving his opinion on why the consoles won't see the game.

"We're kind of damned if we do and damned if we don't. I think we're in a slightly different position [to FIFA], because we've been criticised in the past about producing a 'next gen' version when we weren't ready".

"Perhaps we're in a slightly different position to another company in that sense", said Murphy.

"We can't get away with producing a version that isn't absolutely shit-hot on next generation.

"I think we want to be confident when we do bring something out and not in a position where people are criticising us for producing a sloppy, second rate port. We're going to produce something that puts us back to where we should be in terms of quality".

Considering the date that this is announced, I don't see it as that bad a thing. It will all depend on how many sports players actually will upgrade quickly. But it will put them behind FIFA on sales hugely this year, even more so than usual.

It means PEs 2015 needs to be really good seeing as there losing a whole year to FIFA on next gen.
