Japanese Software Charts, (July 8-14): Pikmin 3 is top

This week's Japanese charts are in, showing Pikmin 3 as the game to beat. Did you really think it would be any other way?

We perhaps expected Pikmin 3 to sell slightly more than 92,720 units, although this could be due to the Wii U's rather small user base. Elsewhere 3DS gets a new game in the shape of Yokai Watch at number two, while PS3 and Tomodachi helps make up the top three.

Check out the charts for software and hardware below.

kevin isn't going to like this, especially not with the Wii U outselling the Vita too. This is just the start.

Cant wait for Pikmin 3 next week. Surprised there was no mention about the large increase of Wii U sales in Japan too. So it basically seems that once games are coming for the console it'll start to take off.

Heres hoping the Wii U will start to pick up and if thats only an increase for pikmin 3 can you imagine what the increase will be for the bigger games like super smash bros and mario kart.

Still impressed that this long after release TLOU is still top 20. An impressive feat in Japan!

Wow, that is actually a pretty pathetic hardware bump for Wii U considering this was the console's single biggest week in Japan since launch in terms of releases (New console bundle, Luigi Bros, Pikmin 3) and even Pikmin failed to even reach 100k. It's interesting to compare and contrast with the Vita's hardware bumps from 'big' title releases which usually push that console's weekly sales to the 30-60k mark and the actual titles manage in the 150k range. Might be time to accept the Wii U is just not gonna take off in Japan even with big releases... I mean, there's literally no potential system sellers coming out again on the thing until December.
