Sony confirms PS4 playable at gamescom

Sony has scorched rumours that PS4 won't be playable at this year's gamescom by confirming that the console will indeed be on the showfloor for the public to play.

There has been no confirmation as to what games will be playable on the system, although we imagine titles such as Killzone and Drive Club will make an appearance, along with a few third party titles.

Are you going to gamescom? If not don't worry because we'll bring you all the news as it happens.

Yeah, it just happens! haha! It's really selfish of me, but I am dead gutted that my Gamescom trip was cancelled. Might have to hit up a buddy or two, see if I can get access to E3 next year

You could just kill a member of the press on a boat with a paddle and assume their life

I am very aware of that. I have a buddy in the states that works in media advertising, he keeps threatening to get me trade tickets/ID but I never take him up on it. I've never done gamescom bind, I've only ever done the stuff in this country, it's always great, depends what you go for. Playing games is secondary for me to the dev conferences etc. Met the guys from Radical entertainment at gamefest a couple of years back, really cool bunch. Met Hideo Kojima last year, he signed my stupid limited edition of MGS4 for me

Call me old fashioned but I don't think the public (AKA: Us) should be at press events

Why not? If you can wangle your way into an exclusive event, why shouldn't you fill your boots? It's the same for film premieres as far as I'm concerned, you can't just buy a ticket, but if you have a finger in a pie somewhere that gets you access, why shouldn't you go? (Film premieres are awesome by the way, if you ever get the chance, I've played celebrity stroke at a few and it's amazing!)

Yeah, as long as you're not sitting tugging it in the middle of the conference, and shouting 'woohoo' everytime a celebrity comes on stage, then getting a free pass from a mate in the media is fine.

I consider that example completely different. The thing with E3 is that most of the big giant lines for games are full of the public and not the game journalists who need to cover the games, so that results in less games getting cover

I reckon Shopto should take a bunch of us next year sneak us in as reporters.

But as you said, you are more interested in the conferences and the free swag that comes with those said conferences

Celebrity Stroke, sounds perverse

But at the end of the day, there is a limited amount of placement for events like E3, so even if everyone goes to the same booth at the same time, there will be plenty of time. If these lines were filled with joe public as you say, did you see any reduced coverage from E3 in June? Because I sure didn't. Most of the big companies that offer coverage not only hit the booths, but have their own stuff arranged with publishers for access elsewhere (see GT's stage or Gamespot's booth) so long as I'm not being a dick about it and hogging access at the CoD booth, if I can wangle access to the show, you're damn right I'll try to go. The only difference between E3 and Gamescom in reality is that GC has days where it's open to the public.

Go on then Brooker explain the rules of Celebrity Stroke you have me intrigued.

You have to go through crowds and stroke the celebs without them noticing, or at least noticing it was you. Simple. My best was Robert Rodrigues and Mickey Rourke on the same night, my mate got Devon Aoki at the same premiere.

I didn't see Shopto's coverage suffering for any joe average public at the LACC either. Stop being so damn nit-picky
