PlayStation Vita Pets announced for 2014

Sony has announced PS Vita Pets, a new game involving.. you guessed it, Pets.

PlayStation Vita Pets focuses on the dogs, having you pick from four different puppies, each with their own personality, sense of humour and character traits. Together you and your new friend do all the things you would do with a real dog or in any other pet sim with the added incentive of going on an adventure of Castlewood Island!

"Together you’ll be able to explore a massive forest, venture into multiple locations like spooky old mines and graveyards to ultimately make your way to the legendary castle in the centre of the island" says the description the PS Blog.

"There is also a whole pet sim element to the game, all the things you would expect to be there and more will be included, bathing, dressing up, training, learning tricks, stroking, feeding, walking, and much more," continues the description, before adding that they've also included AR features.

Not much else was mentioned, although there will be hands on time at gamescom next month.

PlayStation Vita Pets is due for release in 2014, here's a trailer.

And just like that, all the Vita's credibility vanished!

Nentendogs turned the DS around so maybe they hoping this will do it for the PSV?

Well I remember having a blast with Nintendogs, but this looks too cheesy with the costums and talking. But I guess every console gets shovelware, and at least they're supporting it, and this is a great way to increase sales in kids.

Good point iMerle, us shopto posters might be far too cool to touch it but it'll appeal to other younger, "less cool" individuals which can only be good for the system. The old "killer app worth buying a vita for" joke is also starting to wear thin now... monotonous...

Stuff like this would have been a bad idea even back when Nintendogs was still relevant, but I guess there's not a lot to lose from seeing how this release pans out from Sony's perspective. Plus it might even surprise by being decent, who knows? At the very least it seems to actually have gameplay in there, so that's one up on Nintendogs already.

So basically It's Nintendogs without the Cats option. Well at least it's a new game and not another PS3 port.
