Sony agrees Viacom deal as it plots Internet TV service for PlayStation

It's being reported that Sony has reached a preliminary agreement with Viacom to carry the media company's cable channels on a planned Internet-based TV service for PlayStation and Bravia TV's.

According to a report on WSJ, a person familiar with the matter said, the deal was a "significant boost for the Japanese company" as it races to secure content rights against technology firms vying to offer similar services.

It's said that Sony is planning to stream traditional cable channels, as well as on-demand content, over the Internet, via devices such as Bravia TV's and PlayStation consoles. We'd imagine it'll also include the service on its mobile tablets and phones.
