DICE say Battlefield won't be annualised anytime soon

DICE have said that Battlefield is unlikely to become an annualised series any time soon because they "can't build a game every year".

"I think the core Battlefield idea that we're working on at DICE is... we can't build a game at DICE every year," Patrick Bach mentioned into an interview to VideoGamer.com.

"We [had] 18 months worth of Battlefield Premium and people want more things during that time. Now it's been almost two years and people feel like they are continuously playing - we still have huge amounts of players playing Battlefield 3. So I think in general, people apparently want Battlefield all year round."

DICE are currently putting the finishing touches on Battlefield 4 which launches on November 1st for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. For Playstation 4 and Xbox One, BF4 will be a launch title.

Not really their decision, EA own them and if they wanted to bring in another developer to split development like CoD then there's nothing they can do about it.

They were sort of doing something similar to COD but instead of having another battlefield they went with medal of honor but seeing as that done guff they scrapped it. I know it is nothing to do with DICE or Battlefield but I remember seeing somewhere that they were going to do something similar to Hitman by having different studios working on different versions so there would not be a big gap in between them.

Also I wonder if with Call of Duty if they just changed the name of call of duty to something with the different with the treyarch ones if they would get as much stick releasing them every two years. I know it would take a hit just because it does not have the COD name.

To be honest, don't really see what the problem is with annual games. Call of Duty is done by 2 different developers so it's not like the same team is rushed to put out a game every year, they have 2 years to make each one. Sports games are ok with annual releases because they need to be kept up to date, but honestly that could be done with patches and updates really, and then make a whole new game when the tech has improved a lot. But don't see how releasing a game every year is a bad thing.

But if they are too far apart then you just get bored and go to another game.

Battlefield 3: 2011 5 expansion packs in the space of then and now. That's not once every year. That averages out at 3 a year. Or are they saying their Expansion packs were so worthless they don't even count? Then can people stop ragging on other expansion packs like NSL-U?

the thing is call of duty just doesnt change enough. its the same year in year out. while just its a series, they should be similar, its just worn out for a lot of people. and they really need to up their game. with the massive games coming now there is a need for evolution from them. Destiny as been in dev for 8 years, just waiting for the hardware. Battlefield 4 has massive destruction (finally) and more gameplay variation than any other shooter. they need to shut up or scale up. its not a demanding game. bigger maps (hugely bigger..) and more players, keep the arcadey style. just go big or go home.
