Thursday Chat, September 5

Today we'd like to focus our daily chat on PS Vita and it's upcoming games and features. Games on the way include Killzone, Tearaway and of course Football Manager handheld. The system will also get a boost thanks to a large amount of indie titles in the near future.

Adding to this is the remote play feature which will allow PS Vita owners to stream PS4 games straight to their handheld, which sounds great in theory.

Do you own a PS Vita? If not, does any of the above tempt you to order one?

Let's Chat!

The Vita is undoubtedly a nice bit of kit, but without the right support it's never going to interest me, and that doesn't seem likely to happen. There's a few games that are interesting, just not enough for me to justify the cost, not even with the price cut. And then there's the memory cards, we were told they would be getting a price cut too, but a quick search online shows them still going for around £40 for 16GB, which is just unacceptable.

I had the PSP and rarely played it. There were one or two games I loved (mostly by Square Enix and surrounding FF) but it never grabbed me, and I eventually sold it. However, I do have the 3DS and I can often while away an evening playing games on that, despite having a PS3 and Xbox sat hooked up to the TV. So I think I'm sorted for portable gaming through Nintendo, and Sony would have to do something amazing for me to give their portable gaming system another look in

Kind of surprised you haven't mentioned Dragon's Crown Joe!? Its top of your pre-order list in the Vita section and has been in the Top 2 for a while now only behind Killzone... Its also been confirmed that Muramasa Rebirth *will* be coming to Europe now although they're looking at a possible digital release on PSN sometime this year... Thats two great games from Vanillaware

Why? They still get their money, there is no online at launch so nobody is getting a leg up on that, Bah. I'm not bothered that much though I still have a lot of stuff to try and get through.

I have been a owner of a Vita with 32 GB Memory Card since Day 1 and love the machine. I actually recently brought Atelier Meruru Plus for it :)

Not gonna lie. I've found the Vita to be the biggest waste of money in the past year. The problem coming from the fact that I own a PS3 which covers about 90% of the games coming out. If Sony started pushing for the Japanese games to start coming here. PROPERLY (none of this Digital crap when America is sitting on Limited Edition versions) I would get a ton more play out of it. But as it stands the last title I physically bought for the system was Persona 4. Back in November. Will likely get Tearaway for it but honestly feel there's nothing coming for the system save for a load of Indie games (about 99% of which are on either the PS3, Wii U or PC.) If I want to play it as a handheld then great. Unfortunately it's getting put against my 3DS, which 1 has Streetpass so I actually want to take it out and about and 2. Is getting a ton better games. It's not a bad piece of kit. But it just doesn't compare at all.

http://www.shopto.net/video%20games/psvita/PSPHWV1-ps-vita-wifi-model o_O not bad, half the price of what I got it for back in the day... then again I did get it for free as part of my phone upgrade. Got Killzone Mercs yesterday, outstanding game, Dragon's Crown and Tearaway soon... To think by the end of November I'll probably be playing my PS4 games remotely from work during my lunch breaks :)

Robichoico, since you like Japanese games I'm surprised you didn't get Soul Sacrifice, Atelier, Ragnarok etc. plus Little Kings Story just came out on PS+

Ragnarok I'm awaiting a retail version of. With the price of Memory cards I aint wasting space on games that the American's got for retail. (Especially when it's the opposite for every other console) Soul Society I wasn't keen on the demo, and not played enough of the Wii U/3DS Monster Hunters to make it worh me buying. If I see it for about £15 I'll bite tho. Atelier. Yeah not a fan of it. Still feels like it's part of the unholy trilogy to me. Killzone is getting pretty average reviews. And that looked more new than all of the others. So yeah, not going near that. Might be tempted to double dip for Dragon's Crown. But not sure yet. Again if it's cheap. But absolutely no reason to not get it on the PS3 at this point.

Average reviews!?: http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/09/04/killzone-mercenary-review/ (10/10), http://www.psx-sense.nl/142998/review-killzone-mercenary/ (10/10), http://cheatcc.com/psvita/rev/killzonemercenaryreview.html#.UioGqj-jui0 (94%), http://gaming.thedigitalfix.com/content/id/1934/killzone-mercenary.html (9/10), http://www.gamingnexus.com/Article/Killzone-Mercenary/Item4135.aspx (9/10), http://www.godisageek.com/2013/09/killzone-mercenary-review/ (9/10), http://totalplaystation.com/psvita/killzone-mercenary/reviews/10713/1/ (8.5/10), http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/09/05/killzone-mercenary-review (8/10), http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/review/a512351/killzone-mercenary-review-ps-vitas-epic-shooter-finally-arrives.html (4/5) These are just a handful of its good reviews from decent publications, there are loads more 8's, 9's and 9.5's out of 10 from other Euro and Southern pacific countries too... You've obviously come across the odd snobbish critic who're generally tired of FPS games and find that in the genre this might not offer much new(yet they give every generic new cod a 9), completely forgetting the point that there's nothing like this at such high quality for playing on the go. I've got it and believe me I can't believe how good it is for a handheld game. For £27.85 with free dlc on ShopTo you're really missing out unless you dislike action games or personally dislike FPS games...

You also need to remember most of these reviewers hadn't yet experienced the full multiplayer experience, some don't even realise that the single player missions (once you've played through the game once) each have 3 different contracts(including stealth contract, demolition contract etc.) with different objectives to achieve meaning to fully complete the single player you have to complete each mission 4 times altogether. I even noticed some complained that you had to use the rear touch pad to run, not realising you can also do it by simply tapping the circle button... just moronic

Did you get Elminage Original for the PSP Robi?

It's on a metacritic around 78 last time I checked. That's about average.

The limited edition was being sold on the Ghostlight Store, only 300 made. It's on PSN as a download now. 78 is about average? That's why you aren't going to play it, some of my favourite games scores are 60 or lower

Yeah i would say 50 is average but then it is down to personal taste, i never bother with reviews personally and have so far only bought a few games I really regretted.

50 should be an average, but so many sites score way too high on things that an average game usually scores more like a 7/10 really.
